Susanne was lying before us, in that same bed; in the room we were standing in only just a few hours ago. Snoring like a pig without a care in the world. Robert is nowhere in sight and neither is Ryan. When I looked at Steven he had the same expression of shock plastered across his face as I had. Although he was shocked I could still see anger and pain in his eyes as he peered at Susanne. I couldn’t help but think how she got here after I found her lying half dead in the park and whether we could use her as an advantage against Robert but nothing came to mind. She still looked the same mess as she did in the park but this time she was in different clothes, possibly one’s that were hanging up in the wardrobe earlier.
For a minute I just stood motionless beside Steven who seemed to be in some sort of a trance which was soon broken by a sudden loud car screeching up the driveway to the house. Without speaking we ran down to the living room to pretend we didn’t know Susanne was here. I heard the front door swing open and bounce of the wall sure to leave a mark in the already battered and torn walls. Suddenly a tall, dark figure walked into the living room, and may I add alone, without Ryan.
“Where’s Ryan?” I asked immediately.
“You’ll get him when I get the money,” he said dryly; his deep voice intimidating.
Steven handed the envelope over to Robert and he snatched it out of his hand, opening the envelope he flicked through all the paper notes with a smirk on his face. Oh how I’d love to wipe or smack that smirk away. His dark brown eyes peered over to me then back down to the money. They showed hatred and relentless. I scanned my eyes over his about six foot two height and large build, my eyes stopped at his tight shaved head before making my opinion that he looked like the kind of man that would be abusive towards people if he didn’t get what he wanted.
“Where’s Ryan?” Steven said with more force in his tone than I had.
“He’s at home,” Robert said sneer fully.
“If you dare think about going near Ryan or the rest of my family again I’ll have you buried six feet under the ground!” Steven shouted as we left the house slamming the door behind us.
“What a sly cunt he is,” Steven cursed not watching is language.
As I jumped into the car I let out a sigh of relief that Ryan is okay but then I began to think what if Robert was lying, what if he still had Ryan or worse. But I tried to push them thoughts out of my head. Again for the second time coming home again today Steven drove as fast as he could. We couldn’t wait to see Ryan. Sitting in the car it felt like I’d been there for hours and hours. All of the time spent hoping that Ryan was alright and trying to keep calm over the sound of Steven cursing about Robert every ten minutes. He deserved everyone disgusting word that escaped from Steven’s mouth.
The journey took longer than usual as we had to stop of at Steven’s sister’s house on the way home to collect Isabelle who had been staying there for the week as she does most weeks because Steven works evening shifts.
When we got back to the house I jumped out of the car and ran straight into the house. I couldn’t help but let my lips form into a huge smile as relief washed over me when I found Ryan sitting on the sofa in the living room watching TV; I ran over and attacked him with hugs straight away.
“Ryan, I’ve missed you so much, where the hell have you been? Are you okay? Did he hurt you? I swear if he has hurt you I will kill him!” I said all at once fumbling over my words.
“Hey Char, no I’m fine he just kept me in his house and told me nothing, I’ve no idea what has been going on, he has told me nothing, not even why he took me,” Ryan said worry in his voice.
“At least you’re alright now and back at home,” I said giving him another huge hug, draining out any bad thoughts. Though I couldn’t help but think how casually Ryan was sitting here when we came in. Wouldn’t he have thought to ring us? Of course he would have to know we were worrying about him.
Steven walked into the living room with the biggest smile ever and ran over to Ryan and greeted him with a big bear hug.
“I’m going to kill him son if he lays another hand on you or anyone else in this family.” He said with his face in Ryan’s shoulder.
Isabelle then walked into the living room innocently and said hey to Ryan, she didn’t even know he had been missing the whole time. Children are so innocent, I miss that.
I reached into my back pocket to look for my phone and that’s when I realised I forgot it. Crap! I thought. It must be at Robert’s house on the bedside table in the room where Susanne was sleeping.
“Shit, Steven would you be able to give me a lift back up to Roberts house, I forgot my phone on the bedside table in Susanne’s room.” I said awkwardly because I knew we had travelled back and forth from that house enough today and he only just got his son back.
“Sure Charlotte, Ryan would it be okay if you look after Isabelle for a few hours?” Steven asked
“Sure, no problem.”
“Thank you so much.”

We jumped into the car and set of back to Roberts’s house again, I swear Steven must be paying a fortune on petrol.
When we got there we jumped out of the car and quickly ran into the house and down to the back room. Thankfully Robert had left but so had Susanne. I ran over to the bedside table to where my phone was thankfully sitting and that was the moment when I got a glimpse of the pregnancy test lying on the ground. Steven must have seen it at the same time as me because he walked over and picked it up from the ground. By the look on his face I could tell it was positive.
Susanne is pregnant.
