"Stop! It's my turn, stop cheating!", I groaned at Daniel who had started cheating in the game we were playing. His bright smile was contagious and my face hurt from it all. We laughed together heartily and when he finally gave in, I managed to trick his mind and I eventually ended up winning the game. His eyes opened wide and his mouth hung of open in the shape of an O. I slapped his hand and he grabbed it before I could take it away. The softness of it was nothing I had ever felt before and his hands were like radiators, warm. I looked up at him, he was blushing slightly.
"What really happened last night?", he spoke softly, that if I wasn't paying attention, I wouldn't have heard him.
"What do you mean?", I asked, pretending to be oblivious to what he had asked me. His eyes were darting around mine, searching for an answer. I looked down at my legs, I hadn't noticed it but our legs were touching. We were touching.
"You know what I mean.", he said softly again.
"It was just a kiss.", I told him, pushing a loose strand of hair behind my hair. A small smirk formed and his pupils grew larger before he looked at his phone. I could see the time, 13:48, that's what it read. I sighed, my heart thudding loudly in my ears.
"I've got to go.", he informed me. I nodded my head and he let go of my hand. Somehow I managed to get through the day without thinking about our talk but when I was sleeping all I could think about was him.

I stumbled slightly in my crutches, buy managed to fix myself up. Felicity was holding my bag and she was on stand-by at every moment. Headteacher Amesh had changed Felicity's classes to the same as mine until I got better. Everybody at school had already heard about the crash. Some people bought me flowers, and others apologized, as if it was their fault something that traumatic had happened to me. Me and Felicity walked past Patricia, who was staring at me, hatred in her eyes. She was leaning against her locker, chatting away to her friends before I passed. I held the gaze she had on me and flipped my hair at her. She stomped her foot on the floor like a baby and groaned.
As I made my way to my first class for the day, I stumbled upon the boys. All four of them were talking to Andrew. Daryl was the one speaking and Jake and Mike were laughing at whatever he was saying. Daniel had his arms crossed over his belly and he was focused on Andrew. I could see something I had never seen before in his eyes. It was something that scared me. They seemed to stop their conversation when they heard my clack-ing of my crutches come closer.
Damn, my stupid crutches, I thought in frustration.
"Good morning!", Daryl greeted me and Felicity, but mostly me.
"Hey.", Felicity beat me to my answer, and I didn't bother to say anything after that. In the corner of my eyes I spotted Daniel staring at me, and I pretended to turn my head slightly and he quickly turned his face back to Daryl. I smiled to myself and listened to whatever these schmucks were saying.
"...yeah, she better now.", I heard my friends say, giving me a concerned glance.
"I'm fine!", I laughed. I was lying. I wanted to cry and I wasn't fine. It was before anything ever happened. Before the crash, before I moved here. And it was all because of my step dad. I hated him. I was glad he was going to prison but it had to be slightly delayed because of the state I was in. I was a mess, truth me told. I gripped the handles of my crutches that they made my hands go red. Everyone was staring at me, they all wore confused faces. Once I realised why, I felt my face heat up and I turned around and left. But I stopped in my tracks and turned around.
"Thanks Daniel, you've really helped. And before you get all bad boyish angry and shit and me, Daryl, he saved my life for the record. I don't know where you were. So, just don't get angry at him.", I threatened Daryl before turning back around and I finally got to class. Behind me I heard Jake and Mike laughing at their friend.
"What was that about?", Felicity asked, as she helped me take my seat.
"Nothing.", I smiled.
Felicity gave me a funny side look and got out her pens and pencil.
A few minutes later, after class had well begun, the four boys walked into the classroom. I rolled my eyes at them but my heart wouldn't stop thudding so loudly in my ears. All I could hear was my heart.
"Julie? Julie?!", I could hear my name being called. It sounded like it was coming from a life time away. It felt like I was drunk, but I wasn't stumbling everywhere. And then everything went back to normal and I could hear properly. It was like a wave of water washed over me and everything was fine.
"Is everything okay?", my teacher asked me.
I realised everyone was staring at me. Concerned glances all were sent to me. I felt embarrassed and I shook my head. My teacher nodded and he helped me get out of the classroom.
"I'm sorry sir.", I told him.
"No, it's okay. I could never imagine what you went though but I need you to understand that you don't have apologise, you've done nothing wrong.", he smiled at me. I forced my mouth to form a smile and when we made it to the nurses office, he left.

At the end of the school day, I made my way out of the school building with Felicity helping me. I was thankful for her.
"Thanks.", I said when I opened the door to my house. Inside I could see my mum in sitting room, on the phone with someone.
"Bye." She hugged me and left. "Oh! I'll call you once I get home."
I nodded and closed the door behind me.

Around an hour later, I was in the sitting room with my mum and there was a knock on the door. I picked up my crutches to open the door but my mum beat me to it and went to open the door.
"Julie! This is for you.", she called.
I got up and went to the door. Standing in front of it was Daryl. What did he want?
"Hey, Julie.", he spoke as I opened the door to my house. I rolled my eyes at his greeting.
"What do you want?", I asked, already annoyed at him.
"I just wanted to say...so...sorry?", he said, almost making it sound like a question.
"Sorry? For what?"
"I dragged Daniel from you when you were...yeah. And I wasn't there when you needed me the most.", he said. He was playing with his fingers and staring down at his feet.
"When have I have needed you so much?", I was now sitting on the bench on our front porch. My crutches were set beside me and I was staring at him, in disbelief. What the hell was he saying?
"I'm sorry. I've not been myself lately. Shit goes on.", he said, acting as if it made no difference to him. I rolled my eyes and got up. I decided that I wasn't going to listen to what he was saying.
"Where are you going?", he asked. He tried to grab my hand but I manged to move it before he was able to grab it.
"I'm sorry Daryl. There isn't anything for me to forgive you about because you've done nothing wrong. Except drag your best friend away from me, when we were kissing IN A GAME.", I said, throwing my hands up in the air.
Daryl ran his hand through his hair and gave me a smile. I nodded, didn't smile, and closed the door. Slowly, I made my way to the sofa, where I was ready to relax and never leave it.
