Chapter 40

COLE'S POV

The door bell rang again. It was him.

I went to the front door and opened it.

It looked like it has been raining. He was standing with slightly drenched suit and wet hair.
I moved aside for him to step inside.

He locked the car behind him and entered.
Was he expecting me to not open the door that he didn't even lock his car?

He looked around and the floor. His muddy shoes were making a mess at the entrance where he stood.

He removed them, meanwhile I went to my room and got him a towel and change of clothes to dry off and change.

I put his clothes in the dryer while he changed.

All of this happened without a single conversation.
So imagine the silence.

I was not mad at him anymore but the relationship was and will never be that of a father and son.

Once he was comfortable on the couch, I made him some coffee to drink.

His phone rang, but he cut the call.

Why was he here now? After everything?

"What did you want to talk about?" I asked him breaking the silence.

He let out a heavy sigh.

"A lot of things has happened in the past one week." He stated as a matter of fact.
"I expected you to act wisely in this matter. Even after everything you have been with Evelyn." He continued.

Who is he to tell me that? He is well aware of the situation and him just telling me to block her out would work? Does he have any human emotions? What can I expect from a person who left those who depended on him?

I was about to talk back when the bedroom door opened.

I closed my eyes for a brief moment for what is about to come from his mouth.

"You have brought her with you to your house?" He asked in shock, not believing what he saw.

"Mr Damon." Evelyn's voice echoed through the silence.

Both of us looked at her.

She came into the room and spoke to him.
"I was planning to call you today afternoon about the.." she trailed off looking back and forth at me and him.

About what? Why is he in contact with Evelyn? What is he planning?

"Oh yes, I am aware of it. It's the same. Could you hand over it to me? " He replied immediately.

"About that, it's back in my parents house. I don't have them with me now. I can go back tomorrow to get it." She replied.

Was this one if the reason she wanted to go back home?

She took a seat beside me in the sofa.

"I am sorry about your parents, Evelyn. But it could have been avoided if you both tried." He said with a slight time of anger.

I could hear Evelyn taking deep breaths.
What is he doing? Why is he doing this?

"What happened, has happened. It was not our fault. And is this why you came? To play the blame game?" I asked him,, annoyed.
