After another afternoon with sitting with Lestrange and studying, Hermione walked into the Gryffindor common room. She saw Harry and Ron sitting together on the couch, so she joined them.
"Where were you?" asked Ron.
"Studying," Hermione answered. It wasn't a lie, she was studying, but Hermione knew that Ron wouldn't be happy if he heard that she was with Lestrange.
"We barely see you though," said Ron. "Besides classes, and DA."
"That's most of my time," Hermione said. "I only go somewhere else to study."
"Why can't you study with us?"
"Because I need to study in a quiet environment, and no offense, but studying with you and Harry doesn't really give me that."
"That does make sense..." Ron nodded. "But I've noticed something else Hermione."
"And what's that Ron?"
"I feel like you're changing."
"What do you mean by that?" Hermione asked confused.
"I don't know," Ron shrugged. "But your attitude seems different then before. Is it because of DA?"
"I don't know..."
---
This was horrible.
Hermione Granger was running late for the first time. Career advice was something important, what was she thinking of sleeping in for?
It was so embarrassing to lie to Professor Mcgonagall as to why she was late, she made up some excuse that may or may not have blamed Ron and Harry, even though they hadn't done anything wrong.
Ignoring that, the session actually went well. Hermione was even more confident for her exams, and for her future. Professor Mcgonagall had guaranteed her a bright and successful future, somewhere in the Ministry.
That was perfect enough for Hermione. She wanted to become an important person in the Wizarding world, and she wanted to make changes when she got older. There were so many things she wanted to achieve, and the only way she could get a chance to actually have an impact on the world was to do good in her Hogwarts years.
She walked back to the Gryffindor common room, feeling pleased with herself, when she suddenly bumped into someone.
"Sorry," Hermione mumbled, trying to move out of the way.
"Watch where you're going," the voice snapped, before looking at her face. Hermione silently groaned, it was Theodore Nott.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't the mudblood who thinks she's better than everyone else. Aiming for a high career in the Wizarding World, that's awfully brave of you Granger."
Hermione ignored him, and tried to walk past him. However, he blocked her way.
"Y'know, if I were you, I would watch my back. Someone like you should be careful these days, someone as smart as you should know that."
"Please get out of my way," She said, trying not to snap.
"I don't know, I just find it revolting how you could possibly aim for a high position in this world, when you don't even belong here. If you want a position of power so badly, then go back to where you actually belong."
"I do belong here," Hermione finally snapped. "What I plan with my future is none of your business."
"It is my business when scum like you tries to change this world," He replied, now towering over her. Hermione saw him reach into his pocket.
