The last thing Alexander Langdon had wanted to do was move to an entirely new town. He was socially awkward and quirky which made it difficult for him to adjust. Like his last school it was probably filled with douchebag jocks, fake people and nosy/rude teachers. His mother tried to be positive and cheer him up as they pulled into the driveway of the new house. The house was an old, red brick Victorian home that had probably been built in the early 1920’s.
“Gee, I didn’t know that we were going to be living in Norman Bates’ house.” Alexander scoffed
His mother turned and looked at him.
“You should be excited that you get a new start… a chance to start all over and make new friends.” Janice Langdon remarked
“Yeah cause I had soooo many friends back home.” Alexander mocked
Back home he’d had about three good friends, but he preferred his online friends. The two friends had gone to college so they barely talked and he felt as if they were drifting away . And the other good friend hadn’t talked to him in a couple weeks. His Junior year of high school had been miserable and he’d become cynical, slightly more introverted and had achieved a deeper meaning of life/music/friends… et cetera. In some ways he guessed that the move here may help him, who knew. Alexander put his headphones in and blasted “But It’s Better If You Do” by Panic! At The Disco. Music was his escape.
He grabbed his bags and headed towards the house. Up close it looked way more creepier but he felt somewhat drawn to it. Alexander sang along quietly as he entered the house. A circular wooden staircase to the right lead upstairs, a chandelier hung in the middle of the ceiling and a long hallway in front of him led to the living room. There were a few random doors to the left. He felt someone tap his shoulder and he turned around, it was just his mom.
“Can you please help your father and I unpack the rental truck?” Janice asked
“Yeah just let me put my bags upstairs real quick.” Alexander said
Once he reached the top of the stairs he saw that there were two hallways on the right and left of him. On the right was a long hallway with one door at the end and a cord stuck out of the ceiling. On the left was a vast hallway with one door at the end, one against the right wall and another against the left wall. Alexander chose the right hallway. He’d discovered that the cord attached to the ceiling was an entrance to the attic. Once he tugged on it an old wooden ladder slid down. Awesome! Alexander thought. He was about to go into the attic but his father pulled the headphone out of his ear.
“You should probably let me inspect the attic before you go up there, I don’t want you getting injured. Come help real fast.” Sam Langdon said
“Fine.” Alexander grumbled
He put the headphone back in, an AWOLNATION song was playing. As they walked down the stairs, he thought he saw a teenage girl peering from the shadows of the dimly lit house. Strange.
