#9 The footsteps of the Flat Shoes

(Mon, 17 August 2020, Summer)

This hot weather is killing me. I used to surf and like to do sunbathe but I can't stand the humid summer. Finally, I swam today. Right before I dipped my legs into the water, I saw a person with her red face. For a second, I thought it was a hot-water pool. Luckily the water is not as hot as it looked. I don't know how long had she swum but she looked tired as her face's color showed it all. According to my observation, she swam 1000 meters non-stop. It was my first time witness someone swam that long. I didn't mean to overhear her and the lifeguard's conversation but I heard that the lifeguard praised her. With her tomato face, she beams cutely. Ha ha ha, I couldn't believe I wasted my swimming time observing her. Her gesture was very awkward and her voice was too small that I had a hard time guessing what was she talking about. If I was not mistaken, her name was Xing-Yu? Xing-Yun? Jing-Yu? I'm not sure. She wasn't Taiwanese, was she an Indian? I don't know. That senior told her to join their swimming team. It will be held next Monday. Should I join the team? Will she come?

Hey! I met her. She came today. Her name is Ching-Yu, Zheng. Today, the seniors told us to show them how great was us as a swimmer, but there was one girl, I think I've heard a rumor about her, saying she was an Olympic swimmer, she refused to swim. She kept saying, "How can you guys doubt me?!" in the end, she left right away after being told to swim butterfly by the coach. And about that girl, the seniors not even tested her. She joined the seniors' group right away. She didn't speak a word, but her smile was shinning throughout the training. Trust me I diligently swam and listened to the instruction, still I can't help take a peek at her from time to time. I wish we can be a friend since she also the foreigner just like me. Even though I'm not completely a foreigner.

One month has passed, she turns perfectly into a different person. She likes to speak and jokes around. I joined the seniors' group now. I was the last person in the line and she swims as the third person. She kept saying that it has been four years since the last time she swam, but in one month, she starts to keep pace with the male seniors. She kept saying nonsense that made us laughed so hard. The girls on the teams start to be attracted by my charisma. They secretly took a glance at me and they will start to smile when our eyes meet. Unutterable charm? Just say that I am handsome but sorry to say, I have a girlfriend. We've been dating for three years, and I have known her since we were kids. This year will be our fourth year. She was the reason why I came here and learned mass communication, I am planning to tell the world and her how much I love her. I know it's such cheesy words, but that's how I feel. The thought of leaving her will never cross in my mind, no matter how beautiful other girls are, I will never like or be swayed by it. She can put her trust in me.

Winter is coming, it's so cold! Chica hates cold weather so much, she likes to wear as much as she did in California. I have no idea, what kind of thing should I buy for our fourth anniversary. I have given her a scarf, jacket, sweater, jeans, glove what else? What should I buy her? That's fine, there are still have five months to go.

About that girl, she is the first girl I know who can endure cold weather boldly and is the first person who never absented the training. I saw her wearing a short today when the senior asked her why she said that wearing jeans will be hard to wear after a bath. I don't understand, anyway, she wore it. Last month, she was in third place, this month she has become runner up in our team. What a great resistance she has. She isn't the type who talks to me like the other girls, I want to talk to her so bad, I just haven't found the right time.
