"Akiro!" Hanami stomped towards her son, her angry roar reverberating all throughout the quiet house. "Can't you see she's sleeping?" She slapped his hand away from the crib.

"Bu-But I thought she was awake." The seven-year-old boy stuttered, stepping aside so his mother could get to her now crying sister.

"And why would that matter?" She frowned.

"I wanted to play with her." The boy's eyebrows knitted together in confusion.

What was so wrong with wanting to play with his sister?

"She's just a baby." Hanami frowned. "She can't play with you. She can't even crawl."

And just like that, Hanami was quick to focus all her attention on Akiro's sister, (Y/N). She lovingly rocked the baby, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she stared at the girl that had given her back her happiness and will to life.

Akiro watched the scene in silence, having trouble understanding his mother's change in behaviour. He had never seen her so happy. In fact, nothing he ever did managed to make her as happy as she looked right now.

His red eyes were glued to his mother's figure as he watched her coo at the baby. How was that baby so quick to gain his mother's love? She never did anything. She never won as many of those star stickers as he did. She never recited her multiplication tables as easily as he did. So then, why was she receiving all of his mother's attention?

Hanami continued smiling at her barely months old daughter but her eyes soon found themselves glancing at her son whose blood red eyes kept staring right at her. She couldn't help but gulp at the sight, those eyes resurfacing painful memories.

He had inherited his eyes from her husband who had in turn inherited them from his mother. In her teenage years, Hanami had found those blood red eyes quite mesmerizing and she had even grown to love them so much that she had wished for her firstborn to have them. However, as the years went by, her opinion soon changed.

At first, everything seemed to go smoothly. Rui and her had finally found some common ground and even managed to get along. Nevertheless, their dynamic was quick to change the moment the grades and the ranking for that year were revealed.

"Congratulations Rui!" Seventeen-year old Hanami smiled as her fiancé made his way towards her.

But, much to her surprise, he didn't look happy at all. His red eyes were colder than ever and his hand was curled into a tight fist.

"Is everything alright?" She asked worryingly.

"Hanami! Congratulations on getting the top score this year!" Emica cut them off.
