12:21 am, HomeThe pitch-black apartment waited for the day to begin, for the festivity of the day to begin. However, in one of the rooms, Kimberly laid, staring blankly at the ceiling she had become very familiar with. She had already counted the yellow spots on that roof countless times when she was unable to sleep, just like today.
The trio had had a long night the previous day with laugher, smiles, and a bunch of food as they watched countless Christmas-related movies before the clock had reached 10 pm and they had decided to go to sleep. Jay and Jungwon still shared a room but now there were two beds (though the both weren't used sometimes) and Kimberly still had her own room. The living room was decorated with the festive theme after Kimberly had demanded it as soon as December began. They were just 3 young adults but they still had the money for such luxury. A medium-sized tree was at the corner of the living room with ornaments on it, the couch pillows now were covered in Christmas pillowcases, on the center table stood a miniature tree, in the kitchen, there were Christmas towels, etc.
After some minutes, after she was done counting the spots for the 7th time this night, she stands up from her laying position. She takes her phone from the nightstand next to her, then heads to the door. Very slowly, she opens her door, making sure to not wake up either of the boys from their sleep. Once she completes that task, she heads to the front door, she puts on her shoes before opening it. Still, in the black sweats and white hoodie(which belonged to Jay) which she uses as pajamas, she heads out, roaming aimlessly.
She knows that it was the worst idea ever to roam around at midnight, alone, in Seoul, on a festive day but she wasn't thinking much.
This day was always her favorite holiday, along with Jiwon's. Last year's Christmas she had spent it sulking because of it so that's why this year she tried to act brightly to not affect Jungwon nor Jay by her actions. Every Christmas, they had the tradition of going to the Han River to camp, set up a small miniature tree, and lay their presents there and at exactly 12, they would open their gifts. Even when Jungwon was not around, they continued the tradition, sullenly, but they continued it. She had suggested for the three to do it last year, but both of them saw that she wasn't okay to do that. Christmas reminded her too much of her deceased friend. This year, she had suggested the same with a bright face but the saw right through that fake sparkle that her eyes gave off. She was kind of thankful that they were able to do that. She knew that if they did it, she would be crying before it was even Christmas day.
Kimberly looks up to where she is. A convenience store. She decides to enter, heading directly to the snacks area. She picks up one bag of spicy chips and another cheese flavored. She heads to the cash register, "4,000 won," the working young female says nonchalantly. Kimberly pays with QR before heading out.
She continues to walk, her feet knowing where to take her though her mind was not thinking much. After a few minutes, her feet stop and she finds herself in front of Jiwon's grave. With a sigh, she sits on the floor. She sets down the items she had bought next to her before tracing her fingers over the stone. "Merry Christmas... I miss you," she mumbles hoping that it reaches the other girl.
As if the deceased girl had heard, a sudden small wind goes through her, making her hair and clothes slightly move. At that, Kimberly closes her eyes and draws a small smile onto her lips as if knowing that it was her friend who did that.
She reopens her eyes after a minute had passed, "I brought your favorite snack that you always ate when we camped, cheese chips." She set down the bag in front of the stone before opening her bag. She began to eat them quietly staring at the sight in front of her. She then begins to cry. "I miss you Jiwonie." She drops the bag and hugs her knees tightly on her chest.
Suddenly, she feels someone wrap their arms on her from behind. She was ready to beat whoever that person was but then she recognized the scent, Jay.
"You scared the life out of me when I heard the front door opened," he starts. "You know that it's not safe to leave this early on a holiday, especially. I was scared." He whispers in her ear.
"I miss her Jay-ah."
"I know you do."
"I want her here."
"I know you do."
"I want her to know how much I miss her."
"I know you do."
"...but I also want her to know that she can rest peacefully knowing that I am okay."
"I know you do."
Kimberly suddenly chuckles, "You're not broken are you?"
He laughs too, shaking his head as he moves and seats next to her, wrapping his arms around her. "You know that it's really okay for you to cry. It's normal to miss people especially someone that is so important to you."
She sighs, burying her head on his chest, "I know that but I want to be strong."
"I know you do. But there are times you just have to let go, to leave that façade for a while."
With that, she begins to cry and rant apologies and I miss yous to Jiwon. Now, instead of crying alone there was Jay's chest for her to cry on. He kept of rubbing her back soothingly to encourage her to cry and let everything out.
She slowly looks up when she was satisfied and suddenly pecks his lips making the boy's cheeks become pink. "Thank you, I love you Jay," she says as she wraps her arms around his waist.
"I love you too Lee Kimberly."
