subject : want you back
You came to the park that day, alright. Even though you had placed me quite down in your social circle, you might be denying it to yourself, but subconsciously you still wanted me. I knew it. I saw it in the yellow headband you had on. The little peek of yellow in your otherwise dark colored outfit.
"Hey," You had said, that familiar, dimpled smile on your lips. For a moment I hadn't known what to say — for I was stuck by a moment of such intense deja vu that had sent my head reeling. You were here, actually, right here, and not a figment of my imagination during my lonelier evenings. You were here, for me, wearing a lovely smile. For me.
"Elaine," I had breathed out into the cool autumn air, and my heart had doubled up in joy at your return. "Good God, I am so glad you're here. I missed you."
You sat down beside me, the orange leaves crunching under your shoes. "Me too. How have you been?"
"Not the same since you were gone," My reply came almost instantly, my hand voluntarily reaching out to hold yours. "Elaine, I am—"
"No, Kayden," You interrupted, moving your hand away from under my touch. "No. We don't need to talk about the past and bring up buried ghosts. Let's start anew, alright?"
I swallowed the lump in my throat. Forget the past? Forget your feelings for me? Move on from the adoration that you had for me? "Sounds like a plan," I said.
"Perfect then," You smiled so bright that one would think we didn't have a troubling history together. You extended your hand. "Hey, I am Elaine. Wanna be friends?"
I reached out and shook your hand, your palm fitting in mine easily like it did during so many winter nights before. "Hey Elaine, nice to meet you. I am Kayden, and I'd love to be your friend."
And then you grinned, asking me about your day, talking about this and that and the weather. All I did was stare, thinking that if I could have you before, I could have you again.
We are starting anew together, but I want you back, El. I want you back, and I will have you at every costs. And I will do everything all over again, if it means that by the end of this whole game, I'll have you in my arms at three am again, no strings, no complications.
