|| Chapter 12 ||
"Next thing I knew, I was tapped out and they were by the stream. All I could do was watch Cassandra try to bust her skull open." His eyes watered now that he could finally show raw emotion towards the whole ordeal, but he refused to let a tear fall even in the darkness.
His mind was finally processing the trauma his body and best friend experienced, but he was taking it better than most would've.
All the different angles his mind created, only to watch the one thing he cherished at the moment, slowly cripple away from his grasp.
"When I saw (Y/N) trying to reach for her knife, I felt like it was my job to either watch Cassandra take away the last good thing about the apocalypse or mercy my best friend."
The rest was already laid out on a caveman's wall, so no more had to be spoken. The story had already taken place and there was no replay on this movie.
10K's choice had been executed for the next step of his life. Warren listened with great imagination, putting herself in 10K's shoes.
She thought about how she would've reacted to Cassandra and (Y/N)'s battle, how she would've felt if she watched (Y/N)'s skull being beat down against hard minerals.
How (Y/N)'s eyes were probably watered down with tears as pain erupted her whole world, while only one thought kept playing through her head: 'I'm going to die.'
The conclusion would've been the same as 10K's--she would've picked a life that was worth living over a life that should've ended with a period, not a semi-colon.
After the short explanation (Y/N) had given the group, Warren immediately knew things did not go like the way the small teenager had stated, but she refused to make a scene at such time.
Warren blamed no one, not even Murphy. The only one to blame was the woman that created such virus that infected the minds and bodies of the people they all loved.
The Cassandra they knew died the moment the Z-Virus mutated within her body, creating a new, more deadlier kind of Z, but because the new Z had the face of someone they all cared for, it was hard to even think about mercing it.
In a way, Warren felt at fault for this. If she would've pushed pass her feelings, and fought against Murphy, 10K and (Y/N) wouldn't have had to go through such trauma.
How were any of them to know that Cassandra would've actually tried to kill one of them?
"It doesn't matter who did it. It matters what you do about everything, right now."
10K's new fate was laid out in front of him. The direction had changed, because this was about to be an emotional rollercoaster for his mental state.
Killing his pa changed him and the direction he was going in, which led him to the group. Now, he's just offed his friend, what direction would he be heading in now?
"What do you mean?" 10K was confused but grateful Warren didn't give him shit about not being strong enough.
He tried and he shoved himself. He protected what he could, risking it all or nothing. What else was there to do now, besides breathe?
"You've been pushing (Y/N) away since Cassandra's death. I know you don't mean to, but she can feel the distance."
Warren raised that girl, and she raised her to read anybody and anyone to a T. She knew the moment 10K grew cold towards her, just not understanding why he did so.
10K felt terrible, realizing that (Y/N) had noticed his space but there was a good reason.
"It has nothing to do with her. I just wan--."
