|| Chapter Twenty-Two ||
"These are the bite marks she had while bravely fending off a horde of twenty. We were lucky we had the cure right beside us!"
The men in front of us begun to scratch their foreheads to try and come up with any kind of excuse as to how I survived such a ordeal; not even questioning where the bite marks 'The Murphy' bit me at.
Take the bait, you idiots.
"Then, how did you get the cure inside you." Dale questioned us, feeling like he was finding the key to the mystery.
"I'm so glad you asked!" Sketchy grinned his famous Cheshire cat, coming up with a story quicker than Peter Pan.
"You want to be immortal, old Murphy here's got to bite you."
I'm glad our minds linked together in this moment. When the men finally realized the price to immunity, they lowered their weapons in disbelief.
They took a step back from us as if they could go ahead and remove the voodoo that Sketchy had strategically placed in their heads.
"Everything comes with a price, men." I lowered my arms away from their prying eyes as Sketchy tipped his hat towards the well-guarded wagon, "And it looks like you got plenty to go around."
"How do you we know you're not just trying to get our loot?"
That's exactly what we're doing, dumbass. If the cure was that simple, why is so many greedy hands trying to make an actual vaccine out of it?
"Maybe we are, but how much is eternal life worth to you?"
10K's P.O.V
Twenty minutes later and these idiots were actually holding down their own; thankfully, it was the man that had his eyes on (Y/N) the most.
I wasn't upset at the fact my people had tricked them. If anything, it was completely karma that this is happening since they tried to assault (Y/N) the moment they laid eyes on her.
It's sad to say but women in the apocalypse are anything but safe. Besides the Zs, they have to worry about their own kind trying to attack them. (Y/N) would be a target to more men if she hadn't stuck with groups.
She's young, attractive and naive. Perfect bait.
"Hold him still, boys! If he moves too much, it ain't gonna work!" (Y/N) grinned proudly, from ear-to-ear, cupping her hands around her mouth so her voice reached the wrestling match going on.
She slowly made her way to me, where I stood on the sidelines of the circus ring. I allowed the monkeys and clowns to play with each other, not having much concern now that things are less hostile.
"Why not?" The one being held down asked, worried.
"Tension blocks the serum." Sketchy finished the lie out for her.
The way (Y/N) acted in this moment mimicked Sketchy's personality quite similarly. She picks up on other people so quickly.
I watched as a glimpse of proudness surfaces through his murky green eyes while they watched (Y/N)'s body head towards me.
He's proud that she caught on to the gig so quickly, without missing a beat or messing up. She stayed in for the ride, but not the catch.
Just hearing the way the con slipped passed her lips like a snake showed me what she was truly capable of doing in this world. She wasn't a kid anymore.
She finally has seen so much that in this past year, she has grown. The old (Y/N) would've never been able to survive this shit show.
"How long do you think it'll take them to figure out we fibbed?" She whispered beside me so the others wouldn't hear over the yells.
