This is a Max Casella x reader imagine requested by @m3lnNe0. Sorry it took so long to get your request out. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!

It was spring of 1991. Filming for a new live action Disney musical movie called Newsies had recently begun.

Max Casella played Racetrack Higgins in the film and he was in love. You might be wondering who he could possibly be in love with. You'd think he'd have a thing for an actress that was doing Newsies as well, but he had his eye on a certain makeup artist named Y/N.

Y/N was your average young woman. She had a stable career as a makeup artist, great friends, and a loving family. She never expected one of the boys to fall in love with her or fall in love with Max.

It was a day like every other. Y/N did Max's and Ele Keats' makeup for the day of filming. What Y/N didn't know was that Max sought her help to run through some lines during a break from filming.

"Hey, Y/N," Max said.
"Hi, Max," she said with a smile.
"Do you by chance happen to be busy right now," he asked.
"Um, no," Y/N answered.
"It's a good thing you aren't because I need your help running through some of my lines," Max said.
"Okay, Max," Y/N said.
"You can help me run some lines in my trailer where it'll be quiet and distraction free. Follow me," he said before leading Y/N to his trailer.

A few minutes later, Max and Y/N were sitting on the tiny sofa and going through the scene before The World Will Know.

"They can't to this to me, Jack," Y/N said in her best New York accent.
"They can do whatever they want. It's their stinkin' paper," Max said while reading his line.
"It ain't fair. We got no rights at all," Y/N said while continuing to do the New York accent.
"Come on, it's a rigged deck. They got all the marbles," Max said as he read his line. "Um, we can move to a different scene now."

Max then skimmed his script until he found a scene, which had been cut from the film, that was between his character, Racetrack, and a cut character. A girl newsie from Manhattan named Ophelia "Lia/Giggles" McGee, that was Racetrack's love interest.

"Okay. This is a scene between Racetrack and a character that got cut from the movie. You have the first line," Max said.
"Look, Race. First, Crutchy gets taken to the Refuge by the Delancey brothers. Now, Jack's there too. I agree with the strike and all, but after learnin' that two newsies, who were practically brothers to me, are in that livin' hell, I think we oughta slow down, ya know," Y/N said in her New York accent.
"Are youse outta your mind? Slow down? Slow down? Ya gotta listen to yourself, Lia! We gotta keep fightin' and win this strike! We'll win it for Jack and for Crutchy! With your and Dave's brains we can win! We gotta. We just gotta. I know it'll be tough from now on since we don't have a leader like Jack, but with Brooklyn helpin' us, we'll win. I just know we will. And us newsies can't do that without ya. Please stick with us," Max read aloud.
"Race, youse real lucky that ya make a good argument. I'll stay. Those newsies need me, and I need 'em now more than ever," Y/N said.
"I'm glad youse stayin'. Ya know, Jack and I had a bet about who could win ya over," Max said.
"That explains why Cowboy would look at me like he loved me until a couple days ago. Between you and me, I think you won the bet," Y/N said.
"Really, Lia," Max asked.
"You bet, Race," Y/N answered.

There was a brief silence until Max cleared his throat.

"Uh, it says they kiss here. We definitely don't have to do that. Unless you want to, Belle," Max said jokingly.
"In your dreams, Casella," Y/N said with a laugh.
"Thanks for the help. You were really great, Y/N. You should seriously consider becoming an actress," he said.
"Oh, come on. I don't think I'm that good," she said.
"If you say so," Max said.
"I should probably get going," Y/N said before getting up and leaving.

A couple hours later, Max had walked up to the film's director, Kenny Ortega. He had a plan to convince Kenny to let Y/N have a role in Newsies, specifically the only other female role, which had been cut, Ophelia "Lia/Giggles" McGee.

"Please, Kenny! Y/N's great! She helped me run through some lines and blew me away with her talent. You gotta let her have that role," Max said.
"I don't know. We just started filming today...although, we only have filmed one scene. We'll have to re-record the songs, she'll have to learn the dances and who could teach her on such short notice if I give her the role? There is so much that I would have to do if I give her that role, Max," he said.
"I know. Dominic, Aaron, and I could help her learn the dances, and I could help her learn her lines and the songs too. You have nothing to worry about if you give her the role," the twenty four year old said.
"I'll think about it. You'll have to let me hear her read some lines if I agree to this," Kenny said.
"I'm aware. As long as you consider it, I'm fine," Max said.
"Okay. Can you find Bale and Moscow and send them my way? I need to go over something with them," Kenny said.
"Sure," Max said before walking away.

A day had gone by. It was about eight in the morning. Max walked on set to find Kenny talking to Y/N. He overheard Kenny offering Y/N the role of Ophelia "Lia/Giggles" McGee.

"So, Y/N? Do you want the role? You don't have to take it if you don't feel comfortable," Kenny said.
"I-," she began before being cut off by Max.

"Hey, what's going on," Max asked.
"Kenny offered me a role after hearing me read some lines, Max. It's actually that character that is Racetrack's love interest. I don't know if I'll accept his offer because I feel like a girl with more acting experience than me should have the role," Y/N told him.
"Y/N, don't sell yourself short! You're an amazing actress! What have you got to lose," the twenty four year old asked.

"It's up to you, Y/N. Don't let anyone make this choice for you," Kenny said.
"I'll do it. I think it'll be fun," she said with a smile.
"Okay. You'll get fitted in your costume in an hour. Right now, Max will introduce you to some of the cast," Kenny said.
"Okay," Y/N said.

"Come on, Belle," Max said as he began walking with Y/N.
"You know, I think you may have won me over, Casella. I heard you talking with that Dominic guy about who would go on a date with me first," Y/N said.
"You like me too! I-I mean, when did you hear that conversation," he asked.
"Yesterday. I was touching up Ele's makeup and couldn't help but listen when I heard my name get mentioned. And yeah. I like you too," Y/N replied.
"Wanna go on a date soon, Y/N? Say to the movies," Max asked with a small smile.
"That would be perfect," she answered with a smile.

And that began a relationship of a lifetime for Y/N and Max. All it took was rehearsing lines.
