Bo Gyo's POV
As soon as Dae Eun was out of earshot, I put my palms together and place my elbows on the table. I've only ever had a few times to observe Jungkook. He really is the quiet, brooding type of guy. All I need to make sure of is if this is just his form of defense mechanism.
He must've felt my gaze, that's why his eyes catches mine. It was a little intense for me to hold his gaze for far more than a second that I have to look away.
Heol! This guy sure is quite difficult.
I clear my throat so as to clear the tension on my suddenly stiff shoulders.
"You got something to say." He mutters, his chin now resting on his palm.
"I didn't hear why you came with us. Jimin said he didn't invite you."
Jungkook appears as if he isn't interested, but no matter how subtle it is, I see him stiffen a bit.
"Are you here to keep an eye on someone? It can't be Jimin or Sun Shin otherwise you wouldn't be here right now." I pause, my queasy state from riding the roller-coaster becoming apparent again. Then I continued. "It can't be me neither, I can't think of any reason for you to follow me here. It's Dae Eun, right?"
He keeps silent, still not peeling his eyes off the ocean.
"It seems to me that you and Dae Eun go way back."
Jungkook lets out a sigh and clicks his tongue, seemingly irritated. "Just ask me what you wanna know."
At this, I instantaneously replied, "I wanna know what Dae Eun is to you. I saw-" I stopped myself. I'm not supposed to know yet. If Jungkook here reveals everything to me, isnt that like betraying Dae Eun when she told me that she's just not ready to tell me anything yet?
But that photo I saw in her room. She and Jungkook were wearing traditional clothes for people who are attending an important ceremony suchlike... an engagement.
Heol! Now that I think about it, maybe that was what's really bugging me all this time. Are they actually engaged?
No way. Do rich people still do that? Isn't that a little cruel? I mean, their paths have been decided for them at such a young age.
Then I was reminded of how controlling and strict my parents have always been.
"If you wanna know what Dae Eun is to me," Jungkook suddenly speaks. I want to stop him but at the same time my curiosity is getting the better of me. "She's my..."
Do I stop him from talking? Or do I let him reveal Dae Eun's well kept secret?
"My childhood friend."
"Oh." I thought he was gonna say fiancé. I mean I think I expected him to say so. "Y-your childhood friend, huh?"
"Yes. I've met her when we were kids." He says nonchalantly.
Was I just thinking things too much? Did I just jump into a conclusion?
"It appears she doesn't tell you that much." Jungkook speaks again. "I thought you were best buds."
Ah, this guy. He's not lying but he has his guard up now, and he's trying to divert my attention off the topic.
"She has her reasons, I guess." I mutter, wracking my brain for something to say.
What if that photo was just their parents wanting them to commemorate their childhood? So silly of me to assume things were the way I thought they were.
"So, why were you following Dae Eun then? It's not just because you two were childhood friends, right?" I have to at least know his side, if his intentions for Dae Eun is good.
Again, he sighs as if this wasn't the first time he was asked this question.
"The incidents during the orientation and the festival," He mutters, his eyes looking more dangerous.
He must be talking about Han Chan Soo attacking Dae Eun twice.
"That girl never liked sticking out like a sore thumb, so having a bodyguard following her around is too much for her that's why her dad asked me a favor to look out for her instead."
My head bobs slowly as I realise this.
That does make sense. But why am I so dissatisfied? This intuition of mine is starting to get on my nerves.
"Then why did Dae Eun deny that she knew you?"
Shoot! I didn't know I was thinking out loud. I didn't mean to ask Jungkook that question. Did he hear me? He seems unfazed though.
"She said that, huh." Jungkook finally said.
Oh, dang. He did hear me.
"If she wants people to think that way, then maybe you should stop prying." Jungkook states. His tone didn't change even for a bit but I could feel the emphasis on his words.
I'm not offended in any way. My capability to read or somehow see through people has always been my flaw. I never wanted to pry on other people's private matters, it's just that whenever I see Dae Eun, it makes me feel like I want to protect her like a younger sister.
"My bad. I'm well aware that I'm in no place to tell you these things." I look up to catch a glimpse of Dae Eun making her way towards our table. "But if you're really here to look out for Dae Eun, you should at least do something about Lee Bum Jo."
After saying that, I waved to Dae Eun to signal to Jungkook that she's here and that this conversation is over... for the time being though.
If some of you are confused, this happened during their trip to Wolmido, when Dae Eun went to the restroom and left Bo Gyo alone with Jungkook. Thank you for reading! ♡
