Jennie

Another month has passed, another month of suppression on my side. I grew distant, almost like someone has ripped my heart out and all I was able to do, is suppress the need of being close to her. Lisa got busier with work, and meetings, but nonetheless, never spent time away from Ella.

She prioritized Ella, and me.

Although, a part of me was hoping she stopped prioritizing me.

I almost jump from my spot when Lisa places her hands on my shoulders from the back. I was in the kitchen, deep in thought. "Scaredy cat, it's me".

"Who else would it be?". I muttered while trying to resist the need to turn around and walk away.

"What if someone broke into the house?". Lisa playfully asked, "Would you just let them hold you like this?". Arms around me, I close my eyes and avoid showing her the rejection.

You love her, Jennie.

What are you doing?

Letting such thoughts affect your sense of affection for her.

I allowed her to hold me, as we stood there in silence. I teased her, "Maybe, I would". It was a joke, but somewhere, was it the truth? Would I let someone else hold me if they weren't her? If they didn't show me safety and love without any conditions?

She turned me around, her expression deeming seriousness. "What?".

"I'm joking, Hon".

I smiled at her, and her face softened, but like a coward, I wasn't able to keep eye contact for so long. Holding eye contact wasn't Lisa's strong ability either—I was grateful.

"Hope so". She muttered under her breath, in a broken whisper but reciprocated the smile on my face. "Anyways, my friends are here and have been wondering where have you been?".

My smile dropped.

She keeps you close, and keeps you closer to those that mean a lot to her.

Why can't you just face it, Jennie?

Face her, face them.

I gulped hard, "I'm just here, you can go and spend time with them, I'm sure you miss them". A reassuring squeeze of my hand on her arm soothed her. But, Lisa was no fool, she placed her hand on my cheek, and searched my eyes for questions I had no answers to.

"But, I miss you". She inched her head closer, and for a second, for a split second—I melted into those doe eyes. Love poured out of her sincerity, but where do I stand in front of that goodness? "Nini, I don't want to be too much or ask for a lot, and I know I've been busy with work. But, my heart is.. hurting. This distance between us, is making me miss you".

She connected our foreheads and closed her eyes.

Tears were threatening to fall from my eyes, but I was trapped, in her embrace. In her loving gestures, in her racing heart that was connected to mine, that has been slowing down. Slowing.. down, neither wanting to be close nor pull away. I bit my bottom lip and opened my mouth to speak.
