Jennie

Sleep.

What is sleep when you're in a home that is so quiet? The soft giggles that came out of Ella were nowhere to be heard. Lisa's voice chasing the little one, not there. Rather, the sound of the birds that didn't understand your story—the birds that didn't sympathize with your silence anymore.

My silence.

Isn't this what you wanted, Jennie?

I did my morning routine, took a quick shower, and headed downstairs, only to hear a sound coming from the kitchen.

She was up.

Lisa has always been a morning person.

Awkwardly, I make my way to the kitchen—she doesn't even greet me, she places her mug down, that had tea, and stares at the window, that settled above the kitchen sink.

Her soft features had me walking to stand just a meter away from her. Her eyes weren't just brown, but rather seemed like a puddle of honey. Her lips stretched in just the right sense, pink, plump, and kissable. Blonde hair, running in a mixture of black and brown. Her hair has been growing. Though, her posture showed anguish.

I bit my bottom lip, and in wonder, a sigh escapes her lips, before she speaks, "Ella is at grandma's, I took her this morning because I promised her to".

"Yeah, she has been meaning to see her for a while, I'm glad you did". I uttered shyly in the hope of having her look at me, but she didn't. Lisa's coldness was making me feel even more confused.

She hummed, so I was the one to ask, "And how about you? Got work today?".

"What do you think?". She sipped her tea, giving me one glance, eyes dark as they stared at me that one second, she looks back at the window.

I frowned, "You don't have to be so cold about it".

"Maybe you don't have to be ignorant about everything then". Her words stabbed me, I moved closer to her but she didn't even bother to look at me.

'You begin to panic because you can't deny what's happening anymore. That little voice that has been whispering that there's a problem now shouting and won't be ignored. You start to mourn the love you had in advance of the inevitable split'.

But, can you split?

"Can you be more clear?". I tried to not use anger as an approach, but all of it was already getting to me. I'm the calmest I can ever be.

"Isn't everything already clear?". In hopelessness, Lisa smiled, "Isn't it weird, Jennie? We are married and are acting like two teenagers, who just started dating".

In a way, it felt like she was questioning the sun, for questions that I was supposed to have the answers to. But she once again encounters her thoughts and mouthes them to me, "Two teens, who argue over simple things, have different tastes, different backgrounds, opinions yet different ways of loving".
