So Long Old Friend

Loneliness was always that distant cousin,
The one you loved but like to,
Keep from coming.

Now loneliness knocks my door.
Bang on it every day,
Leaving me unsure.

I get it,
I really do,
You want me but I don't need you.

The thing with loneliness is,
It's a vulture,
Searching and clinging on to anything not far.

Loneliness my distant friend,
Why don't you go away.
Really not even come back another day.

Loneliness we've been together for so long,
All the memories we share,
I really want to move on.

I'm letting go of you,
Looking for a breakthrough.

Finally picking up my life,
Taking control and not just letting it,
Pass me by.

I am the captain of my own play,
The lead actor in the ball game.

I recognise it was I who called you,
Inviting you in,
Saying come through.

All that's over now,
Rescinding the invitation,
Telling you to get out.

I'm done with you,
And there's nothing you can do.

I hold no grudge,
But now it's time for me to move on.

So, move along too...
