They say the eyes are the gateway to the soul,
So why can't I see his soul?

Has the world broken him so much that he leaves it at home,
Hoping that he could save it by keeping it safely locked away.

He looks as if he carries the weight of the world on just one shoulder,
The darkness in his eyes from where the world had beat him one too many times.

He smiles but it never quite reaches his eyes,
He laughs but those moments are fleeting.

I look at him and see the stars and the moon,
He looks at me and sees the same thing ordinary people do.

The dark whole of his eyes often gets mistaken for mystery,
Not many really see the pain buried deep beneath the misery.

I may not know much about him,
Actually, scratch that I do.

He desperately tries to hide it,
Not knowing I do the same too.

Hurt recognises hurt,
While broken recognises broken.

I may not see your soul,
But from what I gathered,
We're one in the same.
