One That Got Away

This chapter is now over,
All the pages are gone,
The book has gotten to the end,
And nature has taken its course.

There is nothing more to say,
About this lost love of mine,
Nothing but a simple goodbye.

I bid you goodbye,
Au revoir my friend.
I pray that all your wishes come true in the end.

I pray I inspired you,
As you did me,
And that you learn to always,
Follow your dreams.

I know it seemed like only an illusion,
But it did teach me so many things.
Like the importance of loving and being loved too,
And that wishes can really come true.

This experience revealed so many of my fear,
It taught me to face them and not to despair.
It taught me that things happen in good time,
And life can be such a crazy ride.

My first love that got away,
I wish you, life to your heart's content,
And want you to know the world's your oyster.

Even though this moment is bittersweet,
I bid my first love a gracious farewell.
I am letting go of my thoughts of you,
And all that you didn't do.

All the love we shared,
That was mostly in my head,
Never really letting go,
Due to commitment issues.

Your thoughts were safe and familiar too,
So, it was you,
I issued love to.

It did not last because we never began,
But I want you to know I gave you my all,
And now I am better for it.

I believe in my heart of hearts,
That I am the one that got away,
And that really is okay.
