The date was everything Deena had wished for and more. They spent the entire afternoon and part of the evening talking, bonding and well, kissing. She was glad that she finally got some alone time with Sam, being able to give her the affection that had been building up in her that she had to give to her girlfriend. Sam was more than happy with the date as well. It was perfect in her eyes. They even ended up stargazing. But honestly, she just loved every second and minute and hours and day that she got to spend with Deena. They parted their ways later in the evening.
It was finally Saturday and obviously, Kate and Simon had to know how the date went. It wasn't even 9am when the door bell rang and of course, Josh was not gonna get up for that. He has priorities after all, right? So Deena got up, cursing under her breath and opened the door, revealing two excited dorks.
-Ugh, what the fuck?, sighed the brunette.
-Tell us everything., smiled Kate.
Deena fake smiled and closed the door on them, going back to her bed, throwing herself on it and pulling her blanket over her head. Sure, she could still hear the two knocking at the door, yelling for her to open it. But eventually it stopped and she managed to get some sleep. Sam and Deena had planned for Sam to come over at Deena's at around 2pm. Yet, it was suddenly 11am and someone was knocking at the door. She sighed and walked back to the door, expecting it to be Kate and Simon again, but she was wrong. It was Sam and she seemed like she had been crying.
Deena frowned and immediately pulled her into the house, closed the door and hugged her. Sam hugged Deena back, letting a few sobs out. The other brunette just kept rubbing Sam's back, slowly guiding them to her room for a little privacy. She closed the door of her room and walked over to her bed, still hugging Sam.
-Sit down, beautiful., whispered Deena.
Sam nodded but didn't move.
-Sam, you need to let me go or else you won't be able to sit., chuckled the brunette.
Sam chuckled sadly and nodded, pulling away. She sat down on Deena's bed but avoided her gaze. Deena could sense that something was seriously wrong.
-Do you want to tell me what's going on?, wondered Deena with a soft voice.
Sam looked down and fidgeted with her finger. She nodded, still looking down.
-My parents talked to me this morning. They had some news. Big news. God, you should have seen the smile my mom had., said Sam.
-I don't understand., frowned Deena, grabbing Sam's hand gently, making her stop fidgeting.
-They're getting divorced. They're getting divorced and my mom is leaving and going to Sunnyvale., elaborated the blonde girl.
-That's great news. One less witch in Shadyside., shrugged Deena.
-Yeah., chuckled Sam sadly, which made the brunette realize that there was more to it.
-What are you not telling me?, asked the Deena.
Sam looked at Deena but tears were forming in her eyes once again, so she looked back down.
-My...My mom wants me to go with her., admitted the blonde girl.
-What? She can't force you to go., frowned Deena.
-She's a lawyer, Deena. If they'd take this to court, she's win. I don't have a choice., explained Sam, looking up.
-No. She has no right to do this., scoffed the brunette.
-She does. She's my mother., replied Sam.
-You hate her., said Deena.
-I do not., replied the blonde girl coldly, looking up at Deena who seemed angry.
-Well, she hates me and I hate her., shrugged the brunette.
-That has nothing to do with this situation. She doesn't know about us., replied Sam.
-Then why do I feel like I'm being punished? Why do I feel like she's taking you from me?, asked Deena, clenching her jaw.
-She's not. I'm still here. I'll just be half an hour away., sighed Sam, looking down.
-I hate it. I hate this., said the brunette.
-You think I don't?, scoffed the other girl, looking up at Deena.
-Well, you're accepting this pretty quickly and probably already packed your things., shrugged Deena, getting up.
Sam didn't answer, looking down.
-You..You already packed your things. You're leaving today., scoffed Deena, noticing Sam's reaction and putting the pieces together.
-I have to., said the blonde girl.
-If you leave...If you leave, it's over. We're done., replied Deena firmly, walking around her room, not looking at Sam.
-You don't mean that., said the blonde girl, getting up as well.
-Yes! Yes, I do! I let you into my life! I let myself get attached to you and for the first time- for the fucking first time, I let myself be vulnerable! Now here we are! You're leaving, so you might as well just form that sentence differently. You are leaving me!, rambled Deena now looking at Sam and pointing at her as she got angrier.
-I'm not leaving you. We can still see each other. We can still be together. We can still be...us., tried Sam but in vain.
-You're gonna live in Sunnyvale! There is no us anymore. You've decided. You made the decision to leave. You made the choice so I'm making it official. I'm breaking up with you. We're over. Please leave., said Deena, clenching her jaw as she heard her voice get raspy, meaning that the tears weren't far.
-Deena, please don't do this. Don't do this., pleaded Sam.
-We're done. Get out., repeated the brunette.
-Please-, tried the other girl again.
-Get out, Sam! Just leave!, yelled Deena.
Sam ignored her tears and walked to the door, looking at Deena.
-I still love you., whispered the blonde girl as she left and walked to the front door.
Deena slammed her door shut and locked it. She threw herself on the bed, grabbed her pillow and sobbed in it. She hated what she just did. She regretted it, but there was no going back. Sam was going to leave and go back to Sunnyvale. She did what she had to do. She stopped sobbing and just laid there in silence, hugging her pillow and drifting off into sleep.
