Chapter 12- A Boy On Tiptoes

The buzzing twisted into his ears

The buzzing twisted into his ears. The small noise echoing inside the room reminding him of a clock that ticked for each second that passed. 'Tick, tick, tick'.

He blinked every single time it reached his ears. He wondered how long that noise had been there and for once he didn't seem to curse how long he has spent trapped inside the room.

'Tick, tick, tick'.  It felt natural for once. The noise didn't bother him nor did it make him want to cover his ears and curl into a ball to hide away.

Instead the buzzing made the room feel lively. The air wasn't as suffocating as it was the first day he arrived. Somehow the small cubicle he was in was wide and a lot more spacious than he had remembered it to be.

It held the most perfect air conditioning, as if one were bathing in warm water, enough to feel heat ebbing into your skin, yet comfortable. The small draft of air made him want to take a deep inhale and never release it.

If he closed his eyes he could clearly see an open field, green grass that blew in the wind with tiny flowers that decorated it like a canvas. The sun that was just beyond his closed eyelids.

Draco could imagine being on a porch chair in the spring time, feeling the sun for the first time since the wintry clouds moved on. His eyes that could wander to the skylight, the white rays sauntering in, and for the first time in so long feel at home.

The door opening startled him out of his daydream. His eyes open slowly to get used to the light once more.

"Hello." Her voice resonated thoughout the room. It sounded soft and somewhat joyful. Draco didn't need to glance her way to know that was Granger, after all he was in her care until the doctor came.Which would never happen after today. "I'm here for your daily checkup."

"Hmm." He agreed, cracking his knuckles releasing a satisfying 'pop' in the quiet room. "Last one?"

Granger glanced over to the camera and nodded. She approached him as she had always done. It seemed like second nature by now when she sat down near him. "Now let's see, say 'ah' for me."
