Chapter 17 - An Old Friend
"I hate you." Draco's voice was muffled behind Potter's back. His arms were wrapped around Potter's neck to support himself up.
He could still feel the lingering stares on the back of his head as he tried to hide himself further back.
His hands itched to flip them off or throw daggers at them to make them drop dead.
"Tell me something I don't know." Potter's reply came out stiff and slightly monotonous. He turned his head and smiled at the people greeting him. "Hello--it's nice to see you too--yes, i'll be sure to visit you too.."
Draco mimicked his actions and smiled behind him to irritate him. "I'll be sure to visit you too." Draco pushed aside the small pain that hit his nose when Potter smacked his head backwards. "Why aren't you a sight for sore eyes, Potter."
Potter didn't respond. Draco's lips quirked down. He recognized that familiar silence. Potter had chosen to ignore him for the time being.
He in fact did not care, but what he did care about was the fact that he could recognize Potter's silence and determine what he was doing to him.
For a while Draco had wondered this since the morning (he was lying to himself, ever since he was "rescued" he wondered.what connection he had to him) what made it so easy for him to distinguish his mood? What was his connection to himself? Why did he prioritize his safety?
Most importantly, why did the black shadow that stalked him disappear so suddenly?
Draco snapped out of his thoughts as his head hit the flap of the tent Potter dragged him to. "What is this?"
"A tent?" Potter questioned, sounding almost confused.
"No shit. I mean why are there two beds in my tent?"
"Oh that. Well-," Potter slowly released Draco from his clutches,"i'm temporary watching over you. So it's only right that I watch your every move Malfoy."
