vii. into the how
THEY ARRIVED AT THE HOW, centaurs lining the row as they walked in, two siblings on either side of Caspian and Selena.
The four siblings walked forward, smiles on their faces as the Narnians welcomed them with open arms.
Selena had always hoped she had seen this moment, but this was her army. She had been in some form of control since she was 13 years old and had spent the last year of her life as the sort of general along with Glenstorm. But now these Kings and Queens walk in and she's on the sidelines with a Telmarine.
She held her head up high as she followed in after them, a smile on her face as she greeted these people.
Caspian noticed the look on her face, but he didn't mention it. He knew it from when he was frustrated at how his uncle took over his place and he knew it would make nothing better to argue with her.
They walked into the How and saw everyone working, people coming up to Selena and asking her simple questions which she helped them with ease.
Peter and Edmund stopped to look around whilst Susan and Lucy headed into the back where the carvings were.
"This is Ivan," she said as the Telmarine runway who she counted as a brother approached, "Him and Glenstorm look after the How when I'm away,"
Peter and Ivan shook hands before Ivan made some excuse about how he had to go help someone, rushing away from the scene.
Ivan was one of her best workers, a faun who had the bravery and the strength as anyone else in this place. He was her right hand man, someone she could confide in.
"It may not be what you are used to your highness but it is defensible. I've been building this army for years and I hope you find it satisfactory," she said, a tone of bitterness in her voice.
If Peter noticed, he didn't mention it and instead looked around at everyone working on the army.
"Peter," a voice called out and they look up to see Susan, "You may want to see this,"
Selena knew where she had gone so she led the two brothers and Caspian to the back. There was a hallway full of carvings which depicted the battle and everyone that went down.
The siblings looked at it with awe, holding their torches up to it and tracing their hands over the pictures of themselves in the battle against the White Witch.
"Its us," Susan said, looking particularly at the carvings of them at their coronation.
"What is this place?" Lucy asked, turning to Selena for answers.
Before she could answer the question, Caspian scoffed, everyone turning to look at his shocked expression.
"You don't know?" Caspian asked, furrowing his brow as he realised the most famous people in all of Narnia didn't know the legacy they left behind.
"Its okay, I'll show you," Selena said, picking a torch up off of the wall and leading them down the hallway.
The siblings and Caspian followed, the girl lighting the way to the large room which encircled Aslans Stone Table on which he died 1300 years ago.
They looked at the carvings over the walls, all of them in shock as they stared at the large carving of Aslan watching over them.
Lucy was the first to approach, almost being drawn towards the Stone table, with her siblings just behind her. "He must know what he's doing," she said almost desperately.
"I think its up to us now," Peter stated, breaking the silence.
Everyone seemed to feel the awkward tension in the air, nobody really knowing what to say about Aslan.
"I'll show the girls where they can clean up, Caspian, take the boys to the barracks," Selena said and he nodded his head, watching as Selena and the girls walked off.
She stopped outside of a room with only a couple of hammocks inside. Lucy and Susan looked inside.
"This is the girls barracks, surprisingly, not many human women live here. We have the centaurs in the room next door with the fauns, they don't sleep in hammocks," she explained, allowing the girls in, "Please, make yourself at home,"
"Thanks," Lucy said as she sat down on one of the hammocks, "How did you get to Narnia? Seeing as your human?"
Selena took a deep breath, "Um, I'm a Telmarine but I'm an orphan now so I ran away here and they took me in," she explained with a smile, not wanting to delve too deep into her past.
"I think its amazing what you've done here, don't you think Susan," Lucy said and Susan nodded, putting on a smile.
"Thanks, Caspian doesn't seem to think so. He thinks he runs this place," Selena said with a sigh, sitting down on the hammock that she normally slept on.
This chapter was so crappy but Caspian and Selenas slower disliking each other to lovers romance should get better soon. :)
