ix. mirazs castle
THAT NIGHT, THEY FLEW IN ON griffins, the large half birds, half lions, dropping them down into Miraz's castle.
She had a horrible feeling in her gut, knowing that this wasn't going to go well but she didn't have any say in what was going to happen.
All Selena had to do was trust Caspian as he knew his way around the castle and trust Peter as he had this firm belief they would make it out victorious.
As the four teenagers plus Trumpkin walked through the castle, they climbed down a rope into some room that Caspian seemed to recognise.
"Proffesor?" He questioned, calling out as he looked around the room.
Caspian picked up a pair of glasses and realised that the room had been ransacked, his proffesor having been killed or captured.
"I have to find him," he said, a determined look on his face and Selena knew he wouldn't relent.
"You don't have time," she said, shaking her head, "We need to get the gate open,"
"Peter, Susan, you wouldn't even be here without him, and neither would I," Caspian said but Selena just rolled her eyes.
"We have a time limit, I can't risk my troops lives for one man, no matter how important," she stood her ground, wanting to help nut knowing it was the bad decision as it would put them back on time, giving the Telmarines more time to attack.
"Peter and I can deal with Miraz," Susan suggested, Selena knowing that they were going to go with this decision to split up.
"And me and Selena can still get to the gate in time," Caspian said, looking at the girl who just shook her head.
"This is a bad idea," she said as she followed after Caspian, allowing him to lead her towards the dungeons where he suspected his mentor was.
"If its such a bad idea then why did you come? Why do you keep helping," he snapped, the two stopping outside of the dungeons.
"Because this is the country I've fought for, I can't risk their lives like this. My parents died at the hands of your fathers sword, I won't die at the hand of your uncles," she said, tears pricking at her eyes.
Caspian now understood why she was so cold towards him, why she was desperate to protect the Narnians and why she didn't want to confront his uncle. Because she was scared to lose someone else to a Telmarine.
"Lets go shall we Your Highness?" She asked with a slight bitter tone to her voice, holding her hand out for him to lead the way, the two rushing to the dungeons.
Caspian opened the cell, kneeling next to the man whilst Selena stood guard, "What are you doing here," the Proffesor - Doctor Cornelius - asked as Caspian unlocked the shackles.
"Miraz will learn I'm here soon enough," Caspian said as he helped Cornelius up, "We are giving him your cell,"
"Don't underestimate Miraz as your father did," Cornelius said.
A flash of hurt and confusion crossed Caspians face and he looked back at Selena, Cornelius following his gaze to the girl.
"Marissa?" His Proffesor asked as he saw Selena, the girl tearing up as she looked at the man.
"I'm her daughter, Selena. Nice to meet you, but uh, we're a little short on time," she said and the man chuckled.
"No, no, what are you talking about?" Caspian asked as he still wondered what Cornelius meant by his father underestimating Miraz.
"Im sorry," Cornelius said and Caspian ran off in a fit of anger, Selena flashing the proffesor a polite smile before chasing after Caspian.
She chased after him but he stormed into the room, holding his sword against his uncles throat. She held her sword out as well, ready to wither stop him, or stop Miarz.
Miraz chuckled, "Thank goodness you're safe," he said, looking over at Selena, "Marissas kid? That's who you're with now?"
"Don't mention my mother," Selenas said, a harsh look on her face as she watched Miraz get out of bed.
Mirazs wife sat up and Caspian glared at her, still holding the sword to his uncles throat, "Stay where you are,"
"What are you doing?" The woman questioned.
"I should think its obvious dear. Some families might consider this inappropriate behaviour," Miraz said.
"That doesn't seem to have stopped you," Caspian lightly jabbed the sword into his uncles chest.
"Caspian," Selena said with a cautious tone, he looked back at her and saw she was warning him about fighting his uncle. He took a slight step back, a smirk on his uncles face.
"But you are not like me, are you?" Miraz asked, taunting his nephew, "It's sad, the first time you've shown any backbone and it's such a waste, and coming from reassurance from an exiled Telmarine. Pathetic,"
Caspian was confused, he didn't realise that Selena had been exiled, he didn't even know how his uncle knew of her. But that was the least of his problems at that moment.
"Put the sword down Caspian," Miraz's wife said as she grabbed a crossbow from the bed, aiming it at her nephew, "I don't want to do this,"
Selena was ready to fight against him if it came to this, she was ready to fight for her country.
