Arthur

"That's pure harassment, I told the nurse to assign her to someone else, I can't deal with that lady anymore."

I told Justin everything, and just as I expected, he laughs at me.

"Oh come on, you think it's funny?"

I frown. This doesn't seem funny to me.

"That's not harassment, that's the advantage of having a pretty face," he winks and I slap him away.

"You're really unbelievable, If I were you, I would never let the chance slip away."

He chuckles before leaving for his duty.

I had my shift over so I change my outfit and sign out of the hospital.

No matter how much I try to divert my mind, I couldn't get those messages out of my mind.

I stop the car on the road side and pull my phone out.

Start counting backward surgeon. Your time has started. "5"

I like noticing details no one else sees surgeon. "4"

Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future, dear surgeon. "3"

Can you hear it surgeon? The calm before the storm. "2"

And then slowly, some of it starts to make sense.

During the previous four days, I have received a text daily and according to this sequence, I am going to get the last one today.

What will happen after that?

I start feel a bit tensed now. I want to share this with someone but with whom.

I can't tell this to my parents ofcourse, they're already so against of my job and I am sure once they are aware of it they won't let me live here alone.

I don't even have a friend that I can lean on right now.

Fuck it! This is my problem and I'll myself deal with it.

As I approach my apartment, I see someone standing at my doorstep from far away.

I narrow my eyes, in an attempt to look clearer, and to my surprise it's mom.

I instantly park the car aside.

"Mom?"

She instantly pulls me for a hug and breaks down.

"Mom, is everything okay?"

I ask worriedly but she doesn't answer. She sobs and keeps hugging me.

"Arthur," she pulls back and cups my face, with her eyes all wet of tears. "I am sorry honey, I am so sorry."

I feel bad now, thinking that I am the reason of these tears in my mother's eyes.

"I am such a bad parent, first I lost Sean and now you-"

My heart breaks at her words.

"Mom, it's okay. I am right here. I am not going away. Please don't say that."

I remove her hands from my face and clutch them tightly.

"No, let me say it." She pulls back her hands and takes a few steps back. "You are right Arthur. I am too blinded by this luxurious life. I have always discouraged you and your noble profession. Please forgive me."
