Chapter 60

"C'mon doctor. Let's get this over and done with." I say as I slmuped down on the chair.

The doctor smiled at me. It irked my bones even though he's just being friendly.

The kid stood beside the chair and took my hand. Then I looked at Victoria who was just standing. I held out my hand to her.

She rolled her eyes at me but took my hand anyway and I grinned.

As the doctor sat beside me, I stared at him.

"How'd you know Victoria?". I ask and the guy threw shades of red.

"We were colleagues." He says and took my blood in steady hands.

I nodded and looked at him again.

"It is a conversation for another time." Victoria says and gripped my hand.

I looked at her and shrugged.

When I was done, I stood up and felt a little bit dizzy.

"Guess I'm needin that ice cream after all." I say to the kid as she let go of my hand.

"Aya, will get test for cooties too?". The kid asks Victoria.

"Sure I will." Victoria answered and sat down on the chair.

I frowned at her but the kid took her hand and held it.

"Ani, hold Aya?". The kid asks me.

"Uhhh- yeah sure." I say and took Victoria's hand.

Her hand is so cold and I squeezed it softly.

"How's your dad?". The doctor asks.

"He's doing great. He's responding to the treatments so well." Victoria says and I narrowed my eyes at her and looked at the doctor but did not say anything.

"That's really good to hear. Considering the much more advanced technology and medicine, he should recover soon." The doctor added.

"Can you just be done with it? How many ounces of her blood will you take?". I ask in an irritable tone.

"Sorry, I'm done." The doctor says and stood up.

As he finishes up with his work, Victoria squeezed my hand softly. I looked at her smiled a little.

"A conversation for another time." She says.

"I know. He's just getting into my nerves." I say and shrugged.

I still held Victoria's hand while she's standing up and she also held the kids' hand. My mother was speaking with the doctor.

"You otay, Aya?". The kid asks.

"I'm okay. I'm so proud of you. You're very brave." Victoria says to the kid.

"It hurted a bit."

"Well, you handled it like a pro kid." I said and the kid looked at me quizzically.

"She means you did a great job and you deserve an ice cream after all." Victoria says.

"I do!". The kid exclaimed and her face lit up like Christmas.

"Okay."

"Mom? Would you go to the ice cream parlor with us?". I ask my mother who was busy talking to the doctor.

She looked at me, then Victoria.

"Yes sure. Of course." She says then looked at Victoria. "Can you wait for me outside for a moment darling? I need to talk to Victoria alone."
