Amira POV

Sound of the alarm, one of the things I loved the most. Why? Well, who wouldn't love to get up in the morning to take on another beautiful day? At least, that's what I always thought, until I saw those bruises. Ever since that day I woke up conflicted, not as happy and positive, but worried, bothered by my own helplessness.

Washing my face with soap and water I looked into the mirror and grazed over my bottom lip. Flustered by my own thoughts, it was hard to understand my own feelings, but one thing was certain. I wanted to know how it felt to be kissed, and whenever I was with Marshall, I couldn't help, but feel this urge grow.

Furrowing my brows, I shook my head and got ready for school. Deciding on a knitted brown vest, a shirt, and a long skirt I grabbed my plain sneakers and walked downstairs, where as usual I was welcomed by the smell of coffee.

"Morning habibti," Nessi spotted me first. She was leaning against the counter watching Alexis prepare breakfast.

It was their ritual to spend this time of the day together, almost as if they didn't want to waste a minute that they were blessed to have with one another.

I envied them, growing up with two people who were each other's soulmates - there was no other way to describe it - I felt grateful, yet uneasy. Would I ever find someone to look at me the way they looked at each other?

"Morning!" I greeted and approached them both, planting a soft quick peck on their cheeks.

Alexis giggled and handed me my plate. "Excited for t-t-tonight?" she asked hardly containing herself.

"Yep! Although, wish I could skip..." I pouted sending puppy eyes towards mum in hope of having her change her mind - Come on! Please.

"Nu-uh," she pointed with a finger. "You already skipped this week. No chance young lady," she gave me her stern expression to which I yelped and gave up.

"Fine."

Alexis laughed and took a sip of her tea. "Don't worry, no one arrives b-b-before you finish a..a-anyway."

Good, because I didn't want to miss a second with all the people I loved being in the same room. It wasn't often when we had these dinners, but since auntie Daisy and Isabel were back in town Alexis said it would be a great time to invite everyone.

"Care to explain why Marshall stayed overnight without our permission?" Mum started again still not letting this go after finding out from auntie Daisy.

I gulped and averted my eyes, I didn't want to lie, but I had to. Marshall said she would never talk to me again if anyone were to found out...

Suddenly spotting Felix I chuckled when he clumsily fell from the sofa. He was so cute!

"Amira."

Ah, yes. "She stayed over before. I didn't think it would be an issue. Sorry, mum, I'm just excited to have a new friend. She's very cool!" I avoided lying as much as I could, instead never spoke the entire truth.

Nessi seemed taken aback and shifted thinking of an answer. "That's great Mira..." she hesitated before continuing. "But just because she slept over here once doesn't mean you can-" suddenly she stopped and finished with a simple, "Just make sure to call and ask next time, okay?"

Taking a bite of my omelet – it was super yummy, Alexis was a great cook – I nodded and kicked my legs happily. "Got it," I clarified my answer.

Sighing mum and Alexis exchanged quick looks, but I paid them no mind thinking whether Marshall was going to attend. She wasn't in yesterday and since today was Friday I hoped to see her before the weekend. The idea of not seeing each other for the entire four days was bothering me and quite frankly caused my heart to ache.
