The song above was written and sung by one of my readers <3
The beginning of this year began with usual struggles, fear, loneliness, and uncertainty, just like any other before that. I walked the thin line of life and death because I had nothing to lose, so I grasped onto any possibilities and hope I could get. I thought that's how my life was going to be, until I end up dead, in jail, or without any more ideas.
Yet, what I didn't know was that there were people, a certain family that was already seeking me out, whether they knew about it or not. Destiny took its turn and allowed us to meet in the series of events, which always led to one another.
Tonight, on Christmas Eve, I wasn't alone. Not in my dingy room wishing for a family to sit with at the beautifully set dinner table.
Tonight, I was living a dream of a broken child, faint hope and imagination that with time was hidden in order to focus on survival have suddenly become real.
It was lively, there were laughs, chatting and playing. This Christmas I got to spend with my family. How absurd was the sound of it? Yet I quickly grew to love it.
Amira hugged me from behind, her forehead resting against my back as she spoke into my jumper, "What's wrong handsome?"
Turning around I smiled still in disbelief she was real, that any of this was.
"Nothing, just thinking I'm going to be older than you in a few days," I grinned, teasing the girl.
Amira puffed her cheeks, an adorable habit of hers, and grumbled, "Whatever, only for five months. It's so unfair your birthday is literally at the beginning of the year! How can anyone beat that."
Chuckling I embraced her into a hug and swayed our bodies in pure content.
"Guys, it's t-t-time for presents!" Alexis called from the living room, she seemed very excited.
"I got you something," Amira whispered into my ear before pulling me towards the Christmas tree.
Patiently waiting for our turn, I was surprised to be handed more than one thing. Not expecting to be given anything at all, this was making me a bit uncomfortable.
The first gift was from Isabel and Daisy, they bought me a new phone, which holy crap... I never had one like that, used to the old second-hand instead. Giving them both a hug they told me to enjoy it and take good care of it.
Alexis' and Vanessa's present was a bit different, they paid for an opportunity to practice the piano at one of the best schools in town. Gratefulness wasn't enough...
"I don't know how to pay you back..." I muttered looking at all the amazing gifts.
Daisy patted my head and winked, "You don't pay back, otherwise it wouldn't be a present. Enjoy kid."
Nodding swiftly, a shy smile rose upon my lips.
"Now me!" Amira brought me a little envelope. "This is for you."
Opening it gently, curiosity was letting itself known, what could it be? Taking out two tickets my heart skipped.
"No way!" I exclaimed no one expecting me to be this excited. "Holy shi-" I paused under Vanessa's sharp stare. Clearing my throat, I looked at Amira in shock. "How?!"
Little fairy smirked. "We going next weekend, consider it an early birthday gift."
Pulling her into a strong hug I whispered 'thank you' more than necessary. She got us the tickets to a concert of my favorite bands. I had no idea how she even knew. Sure I talked about their music a lot but never thought she actually listened to my rambling.
