𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 :"LOOK, WE'RE BOTH in the wrong," mason shrugged. himself and sage had been locked in the changing rooms for twenty-five minutes, and he was finally bothered to talk it out with her.
mason was surprised when sage began speaking instead of screaming at him like she normally would. he could tell she was genuinely sorry, just like he was, and saw that sage was ready to be a mature adult.
he paid no attention to the game at this point, once again putting his baby mother over everything else. it wasn't long before sage allowed him to explain his side of the story. "i never did anything with her, and you know this. she was hurting and needed a shoulder to cry on."
"are you sure she didn't want a dick to cry on? canelle told me that-"
"you're doing it again! it was nothing," he clarified. mason watched as sage took a few deep breath's, recollecting herself. he waited a minute or two before continuing, "whatever canelle told you was a lie. the only people that know the full story are you, me, ana and madders."
"oh."
"yeah, oh — why do you always do this? we were doing so well before you jumped to conclusions."
"no we weren't mase," sage started. the use of his nickname made him crack a small smile. the situation as a whole made him smile a little, after nearly ten years of all the arguments, they were finally going to talk it out. "what about ashley," she finished, mimicking him as she said the girl's name.
before answering, mason led sage over to one of the benches. if he was going to be stuck in the room for god knows how long, he wanted his legs to have a break atleast.
"ashley was a girl i used to mess with—"
"so i was right then," she scoffed.
"shut the fuck up and listen to me," he demanded, making sage fall quiet. "it was back when you was with tammy. we were never serious, just each other's company sometimes."
as per usual with mason, sage was beginning to feel like a fool. she didn't fully believe him yet but she could tell some part of him wasn't lying. whenever she would pull the 'this is your last chance' card on him, mason would always fix up for a couple months before something broke them up again. so she sat there asking herself, was he actually telling the truth this time?
"but the texts she sent..?"
"if you read my messages you would've seen that i didn't reply to her. how could i have been with her 'yesterday' if i spent the whole week with you—"
"you left to go out though," she cut him off.
"i went tesco, sage. i was gone for ten minutes max, that's nowhere near enough time for me to: drive to hackney, fuck a girl and drive all the way back," he explained for the girl.
and suddenly, sage felt like a full on idiot.
mason explaining things now put everything in a whole new perspective. she felt like a bitch for letting aitch do what he did, and for just being with him in general. both mason and sage promised that they'd cut off anyone else that they had in their phones. mason kept his promise, but she didn't.
"and about analay, i understand why you're pissed," he scooted closer to her, taking her smaller hand in his. "but she was crying on the side of the road, i called madders and let him know straight away," he justified.
"so you guys didn't—?" she cut herself off, yet he still knew what sage was referring to. mason shook his head, putting her suspicions at ease. "so why did canelle say that you guys went out on a date together?"
"she's been like this ever since her and bukayo broke up. point is; i'd never get with any of your friends to piss you off. i hate them all too much," he joked, grinning when he got a
small smile out of her.sage made a mental note to ask canelle about her relationship, since she had no idea that her friend was newly single. she glanced at the telly in the changing rooms, seeing there was only eight minutes until half time. she turned back to mason, watching him as he played with her fingers.
"so, now what? do we get back together or..?" she asked.
"no."
"what do you mean 'no?' " sage questioned, confusion laced in her voice. "we always get back together, what's different now?" she scoffed again, pushing further.
"don't get defensive mate, we still need to talk about you and your little boyfriend," he pointed out. "tuchel's probably gonna play me in the second half, so we won't have time to talk now. let's just leave it for now, tell everyone that we're all good and i'll take you out soon to fully talk it out. sound good?"
sage nodded, seeing that there was still a couple more minutes left of the first half. mason stood up, stretching a little before pulling sage up too.
"once we talk everything out, we'll be better than ever," he promised. after sharing a quick hug, he kissed her sweetly. the two pulled away from each other when they heard billy gilmour's infamous accent from down the hall.
"how the fuck didn't that go in! the ref is a biased prick too, fuckin' hell mate!" his voice grew louder, until the group made a sudden stop at the doors. "who's fuckin' locked the door then? well done!"
"move," reece pushed him out of the way pushing the key that he got from declan, into the lock. the doors clicked twice more before they were pushed open, the chelsea team's eyes falling on sage and mason who stood in the middle of the room.
"and where were you then? we nearly conceded twice, TWICE MASON! and i don't know what nuno has been feeding winks but my god that man is like the flash," billy ranted in one breath.
the team had chosen to ignore the scottish boy, instead going back to their allocated seats in the changings rooms. tuchel followed behind, grinning when he saw mason. no one bothered to ask him how his talk with sage went, they could all tell.
"i'm gonna go find azzy..." sage trailed off, letting mason's hand drop to his side. he nodded and gave her a small smile as she walked away.
once she was gone, mason turned back to his teammates — smiling like a clown. he could see a few of them laughing at his 'simp like' actions. he only flipped them off, turning to his coach instead.
