𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 — 𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 :

IT'S BEEN A WEEK since sage and i last talked, but here we were sitting opposite each other at mayhill's. despite me being pissed at her, i would still take her to the nicest places — even if it was just to talk things out.

i could tell she was nervous, i was too but we had to have the conversation sooner or later. she looked so beautiful, even more than before. she did something different, i could tell. she always does this to make me come back to her, and it works everytime.

it was her makeup this time. the highlighter that sage used was more subtle and when she paired it with some clear lipgloss, it gave her face a more natural look. she knew i loved it when she was bare-faced, how fucking smart.

"so... explain then," i finally spoke after a couple minutes of silence. the waiter left a while ago, soon to be returning with our drinks. so i thought it was best that we get on with it before we get interrupted.

"it's not that easy, mase."

"all you have to do is use your words," i replied in the same tone i would use with azelia, just to piss her off. the way sage's expression fell made me feel bad, but at the same time she deserved it.

"stop patronising me," she crossed one leg over the other, mimicking my posture. well maybe you should stop fucking cheating on me, i thought.

"nobody is patronising you, love."

"don't fucking—" she cut herself off to take a deep breath, looking into my eyes as she spoke again. "we're not making any progress, mason."

i scoffed, was she being serious? our progress was going perfectly fucking fine before she decided to break my phone for 'cheating.'

people around us were starting to look over, sage's voice gradually got louder as she spoke — drawing attention to our table. i gently kicked her under the table, telling her to shut the fuck up through eye contact. the last thing we needed was our names plastered on the daily mail tomorrow morning.

"aitch and i... were never a thing," she confessed.

"sorry what?" i sat there for a second, trying to comprehend what she just told me.

"we weren't a thing, there was never any competition between you two." i gave her the dirtiest look ever, there was no way in hell she just said that..?

"so — hold on a second; you're telling me that there was 'never a competition' after you had him playing step dad to my daughter? after he was fucking messaging me, saying that he was 'hitting it better?'" is it crack she smokes?

i sat up straight now, her point being such a shock to me. "how the hell could you drop something like that on me after i fucking defended you? you made me look so fucking stupid!"

"you made yourself look stupid, why would you assume i did anything with him?" she tried spinning it back on me, like usual. "point is — he never, ever compared to you."

"course he doesn't compare to me; i'm mason fuckin' mount," i mumbled, taking a sip of my double happiness that the waiter brought over. "thank you..." i squinted to read her name tag, "savahni."

"of course," she sent me a sweet smile before making her way back to the bar.

"mason, we're on a date and you want to flirt with other girls?"

"yes," i deadpanned, taking another sip of my drink. her face fell even more, the non-amused expression turning into a small frown. her eyes seemed to be welling up with tears, so i made a move to grab her hands, "i'm joking, don't worry," i reassured her.

after wiping the small tears that fell down her cheeks, she began to speak again — explaining everything that happened with aitch and the situation with analay from her own point of view.

"canelle told me that some girl called tennesse saw you two together and then mya messaged me, saying she saw you guys too. i guess i just jumped to conclusions again and i'm sorry."

"i understand you listening to nell, ish, but tennessee and mya? really sage? they're my ex's—"

"i'm your only ex."

"okay ex-situationship's then. but why would you listen to them?" i began to feel how i did before, a little sorry for everything. i held onto sage's hands tighter, not wanting to let go any time soon.

"i was paranoid and like you said, pissed off about aitch." i nodded my head to her words. "and i apologise for what went down with him and azelia, there's context behind it; there was a picture of you on the bus and she recognised you, he cut the video to make it look like she was calling him dada."

oh.

"when i got the notification i told him to take it down and gave him a whole ass lecture. he also got a strong talk from asai and kole, they were there too," she added on. so was i overreacting?

"so.. nothing was happening with him?"

"no, she bullied him — it was kinda funny," she let out one of those post-cry giggles, making me melt a little. god save my clown arse. i wiped a small tear away, gently kissing her hand after. "so, now what?" she repeated her question from the changing rooms.

"i say we give it another go... but we take it slow this time," i watched sage's eyes brighten up, maybe she did love me as much as i loved her. "no main social posts, just spam insta's. we'll tell our friends too."

"okay," i heard her whisper, her smile growing bigger. this girl was going to be the death of me, again. there was a ninety percent chance of this going wrong, but i was willing to risk it. i knew there was no point in adding the 'last chance' bullshit since we would get back together anyways.

"i love you,"

"i love you more, mophead," sage grinned at me, using an old nickname that she came up with back in uni. i screwed my face up at the old name but laughed nonetheless.
