When Maia finally calmed down she noticed that she was laying on a couch with her head in Sharon's lap. "Hi, you're in my office. I just couldn't leave you alone." Sharon said softly using the pads of her thumbs to dry Maia's tears. Maia sniffed and sat up making Sharon move her hands back to her lap. "Thank you, I don't know why it's hitting me so hard." Maia huffed as she wrapped her arms around herself for some comfort. "Because you had hope, during your time with HYDRA the only thing that kept you going was the knowledge that your parents were alive, am I wrong?" Sharon pauses waiting for Maia's answer.
Maia reaches out for a tissue and sheepishly shakes her head as she wipes her tears away. "You were using that as something to go forward whether you were going to get out or not but to find out that all along they were dead it's heartwrenching and I'm so sorry that they did that to you." Maia watches as Sharon reaches forward to place her hand on Maia's arm but changes her mind and lets her hand rest in her lap. Maia sniffs and scoots toward Sharon before putting her head on her shoulder. "Thank you, you've been one of the few people who have shown me kindness. I truly want to help you figure out where Agent Lewis is but they were careful not to say things about their personal life. Much like the cell here I can hear sounds in the place they had me locked up in but they weren't muffled so heard everything unlike here where I could hear a normal amount. I wish I heard something to help you but I didn't, I promise." Maia's hands shook which was a sign that meant she was getting worked up.
"Okay, it's fine." Sharon put her hand on Maia's to calm the shaking, Maia took a deep breath and watched as her hands slowly stopped shaking as bad. "I told them that you didn't know and we will continue trying to find her. In the meantime, I'm working on getting your house arrest papers written up." The news made Maia smile slightly and raise her head from her spot on Sharon's shoulder. "Really? Where would I stay?" Maia asked secretly hoping that it wouldn't be too far from Sharon, she's grown fond of the blonde-haired woman since she's been with S.H.I.E.L.D. She's been one of the only people to treat Maia like a human being with feelings, not a puppet or an asset.
"Well, you can stay at a safe house or you can stay near my apartment. It's S.H.I.E.L.D issued so it's safe but also you would have someone nearby. If they do approve the request which one would you prefer?" Maia looked down at her hands that were still holding the tissue before she looked back up at Sharon again. "I want to stay at the apartment near you if that's possible. Just because I know you and it would make things a lot easier." Instead of getting annoyed like Maia thought she would Sharon smiled before nodding. "I had a feeling, it's just nice to live next to someone that you know. It would also be helpful considering you probably wouldn't be able to leave if you wanted something that the guards can't get you, I could get you." Sharon gave Maia a kind smile, one that made Maia's stomach start to flutter.
"Thank you, seriously." Maia sighed happily as she turned around to look at the window that was behind her. "Do you want me to open the blinds?" Sharon asks softly making Maia nod, Sharon turns around a pulls the cord making the blinds go open, Maia can't help but gasp in shock. She's seen New York before but never like this, she was always on a time crunch so she couldn't take in her surroundings as much as she would like. "This is amazing, this isn't my first time seeing New York but I've never really soaked it in, you know?" Maia looks at Sharon eyes full of wonder. "Of course, your sense aren't overwhelmed?" Sharon asks putting her chin on the back of the couch as she was still turned around like Maia facing the window.
"It's bearable, sometimes it just gets too much but right now it's not too much. It helps that I can hear the children down there laughing." Maia points to the little girl who was feeding the ducks with someone Maia assumes to be the girl's caregiver. "Shit, I can see how you can get overwhelmed easily. We can have our scientists working on getting you some earplugs if you would like?" Sharon looks at Maia carefully as she turns back around away from the window.
Maia sighed before doing the same as Sharon and turning away from the window. "Not right now, maybe later." Maia looked at Sharon apologetically, the woman quickly shrugged her off wordlessly telling Maia that it was no big deal. "Perfectly fine, it would be better anyway if we don't seem like we're asking for too much all at once." Sharon chuckles lightly.
A few minutes pass without either woman talking but suddenly Maia looks at Sharon. "I have a question," Maia asks looking at Sharon nervously. "Yea, what is it?" Sharon replies looking at Maia like she can tell her anything. "Do you know if someone has any of my family's stuff? Like pictures or anything?" Maia fiddles with her fingers as she waits for Sharon to answer. "Let me look," Sharon says as she pulls out her phone to look at something, Sharon hums typing away.
It doesn't take her that long for her to turn off her phone and look at Maia with a frown. "No one has anything, to my knowledge, no one knew that they had family members in Guatemala from your Dad's side as all your maternal family has sadly passed away so the police department just donated it all. I'm sure that you might be able to get a few old pictures from your paternal side but I'm sure and that's all up to you."
Maia had mixed feelings, she was sad but in a way, it made it easier knowing that she would be able to move on from everything that had happened. "Thank you for looking." Instead of responding Sharon nods with a kind smile.
