Maia's brows furrowed when she heard a beeping noise, she slowly started to open her eyes but shut them quickly when she saw a bright white light. She gulped and started to slowly open her eyes, she saw a white ceiling and she could feel her heart rate starting to pick up. Maia was back at HYDRA, she knew it. "Hey hey, Maia. Calm down, can you hear me?" A voice said from Maia's right, she tilted her head to the voice and was surprised to see it was Sharon. She gulped as she nodded, she looked at their interlocked hands but quickly moved so her eyes were back on Sharon's. "What happened?" Maia's voice was hoarse and it hurt to talk, the pain must've been shown on her face because Sharon reached towards the table and grabbed the water before bringing the straw up to Maia's lips.

"Small sips," Sharon instructed gently. "You were shot, the bullet pierced your shoulder and went towards your heart. You died on the table Maia, you were very lucky." Maia sighed as Sharon explained to her, she looked at the ceiling emotionless. "I don't know if you'd call it luck." Now that she was awake she could start to hear the things around her, the way Sharon's heart sped up after Maia spoke. "Don't say that, god Maia. I thought you died, I thought you died in my arms and I don't want that to ever happen again." Sharon yanked her hand from Maia's hand and ran her hands through her hair.

Maia frowned at the loss of Sharon's hand but moved her hands so they were resting on her stomach, she felt the twinge of her shoulder when she moved it. "Do you know who shot me?" Maia asks quietly. Sharon presses her lips together as she nods, she stands up from her chair and walks over to the couch that was next to the wall under the high window. She rifles through her bag before she pulls out a yellow folder. She sat on the couch and looked through the file before pulling out what she wanted, she stood up and walked back over to Maia and stood next to the edge of the hospital bed. "It was her." Sharon flipped the small paper she was holding which turned out to be a surveillance picture of Agent Dana Lewis, Maia was ashamed when she let out a shiver at seeing Dana again. "This was about a week ago, 2 days after the shooting. You've been in and out of consciousness since then. We told agents to follow her, but yesterday one of the agents went missing. We pulled the other agent just to protect them, I'm sorry we couldn't catch her." Maia looked at Sharon confused, she grabbed the remote and started to raise the bed slightly so Maia was in more of a sitting position. "Why are you sorry? You didn't do anything wrong, you didn't shoot me." Maia noticed that Sharon's heart skipped in beat when she said the word shoot, the reaction made Maia's brows furrow but she didn't comment on it.

"I know." Sharon sighs as she takes a seat in the chair that she vacated before. "I just feel sorry because I'm your charge, I was put in charge of you but I failed you. You got hurt on my watch." Maia sighed at Sharon, she couldn't allow Sharon to feel sorry. She took a deep breath before she grabbed Sharon's hand which was resting on the edge of the bed, the quick move made pain shoot through Maia's shoulder but she just breathed through it. She's been through worse after all.

"Jesus Maia, you're still healing." Sharon chastises but Maia doesn't do anything but roll her eyes at Sharon. "I don't care, I've been through worse. You know that. Listen, I don't blame you for what happened. If anything I blame myself, I couldn't help you catch her in the first place. I can take a bullet to the shoulder, you can't Sharon." Sharon opened her mouth but closed it and sighed, Maia, pressed her lips together and started to pull herself into a sitting position.

She ignored Sharon's pleas to lay down, she sat on the edge of the bed in front of Sharon. She took the hand that had the IV in the back of it and lifted it to caress Sharon's face. Maia told herself to stop but she couldn't, she almost died. "It's not your fault," Maia whispered as she inched closer to Sharon, Maia could feel Sharon's breath across her face they were so close together.

Maia could hear Sharon's heartbeat quicken, and at that moment Maia did something that shocked both her and Sharon. Maia pressed her lips to Sharon's, the blonde woman let out a squeak in surprise but started to kiss back. Sharon pulled back making Maia have to resist letting out a whimper. "Oh my god," Maia whispered to herself as she realized what she had just done.

"I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have done that," Maia says quickly in embarrassment, Sharon coughs as she scoots back from the chair after she makes sure that Maia won't fall off the bed. She rubs a hand on her face before she walks toward the couch and starts to place the file back in her bag. "Um, I just remembered that I have some paperwork to file back at the office now that you're awake," Sharon says voice shaking, Maia closes her eyes in shame. She watches as Sharon walks quickly towards the door keeping her face down, but Maia can still see a slight hint of pink on Sharon's cheeks.

Maia sighs to herself and shakes her head quickly, she was so foolish for doing that. Sharon was just assigned to Maia, she wasn't Maia's friend. She didn't like Maia the way Maia liked her, Maia was just another job for Sharon.

"You know she never left your side." A new voice filled the room, Maia didn't let the surprise show on her face at the new voice, the only acknowledgment that Maia showed was her hand twitched in surprise when the nurse entered the room.

The reason Sharon didn't leave Maia's side was that she felt guilty, that was all, Maia's brain supplied for her as she turned her head away from the nurse who was fiddling with the monitors that Maia was hooked up to, Maia heard the nurse let out a sigh before she heard the hospital room door open and then close again. She ignored it in favor of staring at the chair that Sharon occupied, Maia wouldn't blame Sharon if she never wanted to see her again.
