Quickthought's icy glare was glued to Stormchaser. She stared back at her mother. Where did this sudden confidence come from? She had always been scared of Quickthought, ever since she lashed out at Stormchaser when she was two, and left her with a chipped ear.

"You," she began. "have no right to speak to me that way, I can give you a lot worse than that," Quickthought gestured to Stormchaser's ear. Stormchaser shrank back against the wall, startled by her mother's outburst.

"Oh, don't worry about it," Quickthought said, a smug smile growing across her face. "There's someone I want you, especially, to meet." She added even more smugly.

Quickthought gave a small flick of her thick tail and a handsome NightWing, almost as big as Quickthought, walked through one of the large, arched doors in the corridor, his huge wings sweeping the ground. A scrawnier NightWing followed, no where near as graceful as the first. When Stormchaser took a closer look she noticed that the two new dragons were scarily similar.

They must be father and son, Stormchaser figured. She stood as still as a stone while she watched the larger dragon stalk up to beside her mother. At first, she thought that maybe he was here to free her from whatever this madness was. But then he twined his tail with Quickthought's and gave Stormchaser the most haughty, stuck up look that she had ever seen.

"Stormchaser," Quickthought grinned. "meet your new- and improved- father. This is Erebus, and his son, and your new brother, Omen." she said haughtily

"I don't want Erebus and Omen!" Stormchaser growled. " I want Sleet and Lightning, but they're both gone!"

" THAT IS NO WAY TO SPEAK TO YOUR FATHER AND BROTHER!" Quickthought snorted a flamed that narrowly missed Stormchaser's horns.

For a moment Stormchaser regretted what she said then she saw the snobbish look upon Erebus and Omen's faces. Hah, she fears me, she heard in Omen's mind. She responded with a quick snarl and stormed off to her room. Her mother stopped her, blocking her off with her tail.

"Oh, I forgot to mention, Omen is sleeping in your room, I've given him that big bed in the middle of your room," Quickthought added, clearly knowing what she had done.

Stormchaser felt a pool of anger build up inside, tugging and pushing to get released into the world, not only was it her bed, but it once belonged to Lightning. Just stay calm.

"That's my bed," she said coldly, but calmly.

"It is?" Quickthought answered sarcastically. "Oh, well. you can have that mattress under the bed."

She expects me to sleep on the floor?! Instead of bursting out, Stormchaser bowed her head submissively, hoping to end the argument there, and stormed off to her room.

She stepped into her bedroom- no- now, her and her step-brother's room- and breathed in the fresh air. The Daylight was pouring through the large, clear window. Up until now, this was a place where she could retreat, this was her quiet place. Now there would be a stuck up, moon-faced snob of a toad laying in her bed.

"Omen, make yourself at home, your bedroom is at the end of the corridor on the right," Stormchaser heard Quickthought say to her new step-son with a kind gentleness that she had never expressed to Stormchaser.

She was to busy sobbing at the fact that her mother had more love for a dragonet that she had only met about 5 months ago, than she did for her own daughter, that she didn't even register that Omen was coming into the bedroom.

He's coming in right now! She quickly gathered all of her most prized possessions, including a wooden bird that had once been Lightning's. she tucked them all away in her hiding spot under a slab of stone that was under her window frame and pretended to be staring out the window, watching the birds dart around in the sky.

So this is my room, it does come with a slave! Omen's thought echoed through her mind until she finally registered what he had said.

How dare he call me a slave!
