The Daughter Of Hades

Chapter 2

"So, then we will find him and force him back" Zagreus explains, stating the obvious choice.

"I'm afraid it is not as simple as that. Hermes, Artemis, and Ares was tasked to find him but to no avail and that was months ago"

"Months ago!? And why are we just now finding out about this!?"

"Well we did say we didn't want anything to do with the Gods" Macaria spoke, making Thanatos snicker at her.

Thanatos is a lean and muscular man, with a regal face, honey gold eyes, and black hair flowing down his shoulders. His skin is the colour of teakwood, and his dark wings glimmer in shades of blue, black, and purple. Thanatos is frequently mistaken for the god of love, Eros. The humans that have come across him have described him as the most beautiful man they has ever seen and called him timeless and remote.

"Doesn't matter the point is without Hades two oldest heirs to take the throne, chaos of the unknown will have the mortals paying with their blood"

"...fine, I'll go back and-"

"Wait, you said, two oldest heirs?" Macaria spoke, looking at her. "Does that mean- Do we both have to leave and rule the Underworld together?"

"I'm afraid it does"

Macaria glanced over at Thanatos, who still hasn't come to terms with knowing that he will not be able to his one love anymore.

Although Thanatos is the God of death, carrying the dead off to the underworld when their time is up, Thanatos couldn't be with Macaria in the Underworld the way he longed for like the opportunity he has here in the mortal realm. His fierce loyalty to his master Hades is a great reason why he doesn't try with Macaria. However, it is clear to see he is in love with Macaria, but he cannot be with her because of his work and his morals.

"Then I won't be able to see you the way I do now" She whispered to him, going to his side.

Even though they were both young when they first meet, the moment he shared one look with Macaria, Thanatos knew he was in love with the goddess, she too also knew she was in love with him. Though, Macaria and Thanatos swore that even if they could not be together they would be close to each other. Her year's spent on earth may have been out of safety and security but spending it with Thanatos made up for it, making it feel like heaven on earth to them both.

"It was years well spent to me and memories I'll cherish," He told her, placing a chaste kiss on her hand before walking away.

"So when do we leave and how long must we stay there?" Zagreus asked accepting his newfound role.

"That's the other problem. Once you take the throne Zeus has made it so that no one will have the free will to leave. Once you are there, your essences will be prisoners of the underworld"

"So, they are both now the new rulers of the underworld and prisoners because of our father!?" Melinoë mumbled to herself just above a whisper. "He knew this would happen. He must have known this would be the punishment" she says now letting them all hear her.

"I may not like your father same as you three and the Gods but not even Hades is this spiteful" Nyx reasoned. "Even before mankind was born if Hades had wished to abandon the throne then he would have been done it. Waiting till now is unlike him"

"Wait! Does this mean I'll be alone here on earth? How long do I have with them?" Melinoë asked Nyx, glancing at them.

"I'm sorry little one. Just right now is all you have. Hermes will be here soon to take them home"

"Hey, it's ok little serpent. You can always visit us. You still have the pearl, right?"

"That's for one time only. After that, I still don't get to see you" Zagreus then came over placing his strong hand on her shoulder. "And I don't think I can handle that"

Even though she was an infant, Melinoë siblings made good on their promise to their mom of always looking out and being there for each other. Despite without a father or mother in her life, Melinoë upbringing was with a loving family being her two siblings, Nyx, and the twins; taking many traits from them, like a sense of justice from her Brother, loving sweets a trait she gets from her sister, psychology from Nyx, and torture from Thanatos, though it is very rare for him to do such while getting quirky shirts from Hypnos since he is the God of sleep, he likes to sleep in style even though it's off-putting. But her most prideful and honourable trait is putting family first which she learned and saw from all of them.

"Maybe once they find Hades, Zeus will let us leave and come back to you" Zagreus trying to be cheery for his sister. "No way will I leave you and not show you how I'm the better fighter, here clearly"

"In your dreams, and seeing as one of my abilities is nightmare manipulation-"

"Please, don't do that" Zagreus warned her. "I may look awesome and fearless, but I'm not ready to face some of my phobias"

"I am sorry but it is time" Nyx interrupted. All their faces dropped from a grin to a frown, realizing what's about to happen next. "I'll give you a few more minutes to say your goodbyes," she said leaving them.

"Take care of yourself" Zagreus advised of her. "Don't do anything that will bring you to us as a ghost" He jokes, before hugging her. "Love you" and with that, he walked off after Nyx.

"Can't believe this is goodbye. Don't tell knucklehead this, but you were always my favourite, even if at times you didn't like me and purposefully gave me nightmares"

"Oh, you knew about that," She said feeling a tad bit guilty. "You stole and ate my chocolate bar to be fair, so I had to get you back in some way"

"Get over here, you little serpent," She says with a smile on her face engulfing her into a tight embrace. "I don't care how long we're away for, never forget who you are and where you come from. You are my other half, even if we are not twins, we are forever connected. Take care of yourself, love you"

Macaria then left to follow after her brother and Nyx but was stopped by Thanatos.

"Remember when we were kids and we made that promise on the River Styx?"

"Yes, I remember. I remember everything and every word from that day" She said with a warm smile.

"Say the promise with me?"

"If I lose my immortality one day, here where we stand, I promise to dig two graves," She says, letting a tear leave her left eye.

"So that when I die, I will wake up by your side, even in the afterlife" He finished wiping away her tear. "Although we were young I still live by this promise"

"I know you won't be far from me but I will miss you like this," She said, cupping his cheek in her hand.

"Being that you will now be the Queen of the Underworld, I will always be there for you," Thanatos says letting her go, walking with her so could meet up with her brother.

Unknown to them, Melinoë had snuck out and away from the two as they were saying their goodbyes. She crept past Hypnos, who was sleeping in his room, as she made her way to Nyx room.

"You already took away my chance to have a mom, and my chance to have a real family, but you will not be the reason why I have to say goodbye to my brother and sister forever," She says to herself, looking at her Father's blade. "I will find you myself" She declared, grabbing the blade off its hinges. "Achlys and Desdemona" she yelled getting her Cerberus attention from across the house. "Come on boys, we've got a God to hunt"
