The Daughter Of Hades

Chapter 18

"Father?.." Melaina says trying to calm him. "You're burning your new suit. That is a new suit, right? When did you buy it?" she says trying to distract him from his anger.

Thalia watches them, looking terrified but mostly worried.

"Yesterday," He says letting the fire go out on his clothes. "And don't you "father" me, you little monster. I have told you that there is more to the story, yet you wouldn't believe me" Taking off his burnt jacket, Hades walked away. "And you have been nothing but very headstrong towards me"

"Tell us now then?" Thalia proposed, running after him. He growled at her, making her stop. "I mean tell Melaina the truth now then"

"Yeah. Well, there was that whole disagreement over whether or not, if you were going to kill or harm my best friend, so of course, I was stand-offish with you. And hush it Talley" She said once she realized her words.

"I will not be disrespected by some human in my own home"

"You started it. You called me a human upon first meeting me, you ass"

"Doesn't matter. Everything that I said to you is the truth," He gave her a smug smile before continuing. "You don't belong in our world, pet"

Thalia growing annoyed threw one of his glass cups at him, though her aim was off making it break against the table next to him.

Hades approaches Thalia, who starts to move back out of fear. Melaina grabs Hades's hand to stop him.

"Uh, Hades, that's not going to solve anything" letting go of his hand she spoke again. "Now, back to the story in question?"

"I know it won't. And look, I'm not saying killing her will bring out the animal in you, but at least you can let go of that ridiculous notion of trying to be a hero, that she embedded in you. Which as your father makes it my duty to get rid of her. It's the principle of the thing!"

Melaina placed herself directly between Hades and Thalia. "I won't let you hurt her anymore with your threats and words"

"Let? Who are you kidding, my child? Unless you have pure intentions to drive that sword stashed away right there" he eyes glancing to her hip, where the sword was. "You're out of your league. You may be my daughter, but you lack the experiences and the abilities I have, you're only half of me"

"Doesn't matter. I can and will put up a fight with you against her"

Melaina approaches the couch, standing next to Thalia.

Hades began to laugh at her, as his eyes bounced between the two.

"Oh, I see. You don't just care for her, oh no, you love her, don't you? It makes sense why you're so protective and fond of her"

Melaina and Thalia both started speaking at the same time overlapping the other.

"Love? Did he say, love?" Thalia said looking at Hades than to Melaina.

"Oh, nobody said anything about love"

"You little sap!" Hades chuckled, pouring himself a glass. "But then, I shouldn't be surprised if that is true. I was the one who fell for a mortal myself, didn't I?"

"Exactly, so how does one go from loving to murdering the person they love?"

"The same way how a person can go from wanting to always protect the one he loves to rather protect his kids" taking a sip he continues. But in a mocking voice, acting like Thalia. "Stop it, I'm not a pet! Or "my brittle bones, I'm only a human!" Or "I'm just as strong, even if I can die in a second at any given moment, I'll come with you!"

"Was that supposed to be me? I don't sound like that..Do I?"

Hades scoffed before laughing, twirling his drink around the glass. "Fine. If you like the human that much, I can hold off until you get tired of her, yourself"

"That's not the ...Look, I'm glad you're not going to kill her, but enough games," she says pulling up a chair in front of him. "What happened that day? And why did you run years later?"

"I told you, my child. I was not the one who killed your mother. I was there that day, however. But I was in the shadows" he explained to her, looking off into the abyss. "I watched as your mother let you, kids, escape from there. Once you three escaped my mhm double disappeared, I then ran to your mother's side, holding her body in my arms. Even though that person was wearing my face, I think she knew that it wasn't me"

"What makes you say that?"

"She smiled at me before she..anyway that smile told me what I needed to know"

"That makes no sense. Why would she do that if you did it? And if you didn't do it, how could have watched from the shadows? We needed you, all of us"

"My child-"

"I don't care but what I do care however is just how this all seems rather convenient"

"Unless, and I can't believe I'm saying this, he was framed for it," Thalia says coming next to them, standing behind Melaina. "But with a snake-like him, it's hard to tell if he's lying or not"

"I didn't do it. And I would stop saying that I did, human. But who would believe a God, who never cared about anything or anyone?"

"Can you blame them? Though, I think all you, Gods and Goddesses are all cut from the same cloth. You all lie, cheat, and destroy not only yourselves but humanity as well"

"Don't give us so much credit now, human" he chuckled humorlessly. "We are those things, yes, but the world is your domain. We don't interfere with it unless we fuck a mortal here or there. This world is only messed up as it is from your own hands"

"Why did you run?" Melaina said getting back on topic.

"Would you stay in a place, where your wife died? And where you're reminded of your kids, who will never remember who you were trying to be for them but now will see you as only a vicious monster? And not to mention a place unguarded allowing whoever to just waltz right on in possibly killing me"

"Well when he puts it like that"

"I don't buy it," She says getting up from her seat. Hades with a sigh of frustration, throwing his hands up. "It's just worked out too perfectly"

"Not to sound like I'm on his side, but how does that sound perfect to you? Someone is after him, your siblings and you"

"Someone wanted to kill him but instead kills his wife, and then tried to kill your kids, while he hid in the shadows and granted yes we're all in one piece but you left us unprotected-"

"Because someone is after me! I would rather run and be the villain than to let any harm come to my children"

"How noble," Thalia says from the side. "But one thing I don't understand is why did you run if you're a part of the twelve Olympians and one of the most powerful ones?"

"Yeah, why did you run? You are stronger than most"

"Not if I'm matched with someone higher than myself"

The two women shared a shocked facial expression as the realization hit them both.

"You mean-"

"One of my brothers had a hand played in this"
