"Three thousand per month for a barista... and it includes lunch… it's pretty good..." Luo Jingli whispered to himself, standing in front of Brew-the-Vibe cafe, looking at the recruitment billboard.
"Dring!"
Luo Jingli went into the cafe and asked the staff at the front counter, "Hello, are you still hiring a barista? I would like to apply for it."
"Oh yes, I'll call Manager Hao over now, please wait here for a short while."
"Hello, I'm the manager here, just call me Manager Hao. What's your name?" The manager Hao asked as he walked out of the kitchen.
"Oh, my name is Luo Jingli. I just saw a job advertisement posted outside the cafe, so I wanted to try for the job."
"Oh...Luo Jingli, that’s a pretty name. Come with me." Manager Hao knew that Li Zheng wanted him to hire a person named Luo Jingli, but he didn't expect Luo Jingli to come so soon.
"Sit down. Fill in this form first, then I will ask you some simple questions." Manager Hao pulled a chair over and gestured for Luo Jingli to sit down.
"Hmmm... seems like you know how to make coffee. Is it convenient for you to make a latte for me now?" Manager Hao pondered for a while, and asked after typing a few words into his computer.
"Oh, okay." Luo Jingli was taken aback for a moment, but quickly agreed.
Manager Hao took Luo Jingli to the kitchen and watched with another barista as Luo Jingli prepared the latte.
He opened the cover of the grinder, smelled the coffee beans and poured them in carefully and changed the brewing settings on the machine, and said, "are these coffee beans from Costa Rica?"
The barista was shocked for a moment, then smiled and said, "Yes, you’re right. You’ve learned how to distinguish where the coffee beans came from?"
"Ah, I've learned a little from my part-time job before, but I can only distinguish the more famous and commonly used coffee beans."
After chatting, the latte was ready, and Luo Jingli decorated it with a swan latte art and handed it to Manager Hao. Manager Hao then handed it to the barista with a curious look. The barista took a sip and nodded.
"Wow, this is very nice! Congratulations, you’re hired, are you able to start work tomorrow?" Manager Hao gave him abig smile.
"Yes! Actually, is it possible for me to start today?" Luo Jingli was ecstatic as he didn't expect to find a job so easily.
"Well, I'll take you around to familiarize yourself with your colleagues. I will get you the staff uniform later, and you can just put it over your clothes."
"Everyone, come over for a moment! This is your new colleague, Luo Jingli, he is the new barista. Please take care of him in the future." Manager Hao said to the staff in the kitchen.
"Hello everyone, I am Luo Jingli. Nice to meet all of you. I will be in your care." Luo Jing greeted the other employees and bowed.
Time passed very fast and it was near the closing time and Luo Jingli, like all the other employees, were packing up and ready to leave.
~At home~
"Ma! I got a job today! It pays a salary of three thousand a month!" Luo Jingli ran into the kitchen, like a child returning from school, after returning home and told his mother everything that happened earlier in the day.
"So much? How are the people there? Did they bully you?" Mother Luo asked worriedly.
"Ma, I'm not a child anymore… But from now on, we can live a good life with this steady income. Hehe." Luo Jingli's face showed a long-lost smile.
"Okay okay, go wash your hands and let’s eat." Mother Luo said while bringing the food she cooked to the foldable table.
In the days to come, Luo Jingli went to work in the cafe at 7am every day, and went home from work at 5pm every day. Occasionally, when he was free, he would take Mother Luo out for a walk in the city park or go shopping for clothes and groceries in the mall. His life slowly filled with meaning and happiness.
~A few days later~
Today, when Luo Jingli was having lunch in the cafe, a young and mesmerising woman walked into the cafe.
"Hello, can I order a cup of americano and a chicken sandwich please? Thank you." She walked to the front counter and said to the cashier, which happened to be heard by Luo Jingli.
Luo Jingli felt that the voice was very familiar so he couldn't help but to turn around.
"Ah! Yu Yuan! It’s you?" Luo Jingli turned around and very quickly recognized the person.
It turned out that the woman was Luo Jingli's high school classmate and also a good friend of his but she became a model at the age of 19 and they haven't had much contact since.
"Hey, why are you here? Keep your voice down." Yu Yuan immediately walked to Luo Jingli and covered his mouth with a hand.
Luo Jingli notified the other barista before handing the coffee and chicken sandwich to the young model.
"How are you doing recently?" Luo Jingli asked.
"I’m doing fine. It’s my lunch break now and I've heard many people say that the coffee here is delicious, and the new barista is handsome and gentle so I came to take a look..." Yu Yuan said thoughtfully while looking at Luo Jingli.
"How about you? How are you and Aunt Luo?" Yu Yuan asked before sipping on her coffee.
"We’re doing fine now. The doctor found a cornea donor and mom’s eyes are now healed." Luo Jingli said as he sat on the chair opposite Yu Yuan and began to chat with her.
"Okay, I have to go now otherwise my assistant will call until my phone hangs. I’ll come another day. Don’t miss me too much!" Yu Yuan winked at Luo Jingli before leaving the cafe.
In the next few days, Yu Yuan went to the cafe whenever she had time, and would stay there until the cafe closed if she didn't work in the afternoon. Luo Jingli would also take time off to chat with Yu Yuan when he was not busy. All of these were seen by Assistant Liu who was watching over Luo Jingli from nearby and told Li Zheng everything.
