1926

"I think this is probably one of the best decisions of my life. Don't you think so, darling?" James said to the woman who folded the towels. She avoided eye contact with him, she had been in love with him for too long. She knew that James killed people, but it wasn't like she had never seen someone get killed before. When she was twenty one she had came back from college to visit her mom and dad. Midnight came around, she heard her mother's screams, when rushing to go help her, she was too late. She watched in horror as her dad stabbed her mom to death, soon he slit his throat.

She had witnessed her dad kill her mom and himself. She cried for hours as the cops investigated the scene and talked to her. Her dad was schizophrenic, something had went off inside him which made him do such a thing. After that night, she then found herself at the nearest new hotel, The Cortez Hotel. She got a job there, rather than returning back to college. Jazmine couldn't possibly return back to do school work after witnessing such a thing.

"Darling?" James titled his head, waiting for a response. "Yes, I think it's a lovely decision." Jazmine lied, she thought The Countess, Elizabeth was okay. Elizabeth did say rude remarks to Jazmine which made her not like the woman. But her opinion on Elizabeth didn't matter, James was marrying the woman either way. "That's what I think." James smiled, revealing his dimples. James was charming and sweet when he wanted to be. Both Jazmine and Hazel Evers loved him. Of course Hazel knew more about James than Jazmine did because Hazel had been working for James from the start. But it was just something about James that made both of them like the man so much. Beside him doing the sick things he did, he was handsome, and charismatic.

"Well, I'm going to get some sleep, you should too." Jazmine stood up from her knees after folding so many towels, she finally looked the man in his eyes. "Good. I will." He said and she smiled as she walked past the man. "And, Darling," James started, making Jazmine turn back to look at him. "Be sure to get up early to make those delicious little meal things you do." He said and the woman nodded, walking to her room.

The day of the wedding was the day both Jazmine and Hazel were both dreading. They got up bright and early, helping James with everything he asked them to do. Jazmine had to deal with Elizabeth while Hazel helped James. James had insisted that Jazmine had to help Elizabeth.

"You don't look excited, Ma'am." Jazmine spoke honestly. "I am." She said, hatred laced in her voice. "Well maybe you should put a smile on your face when you walk down the aisle." Jazmine snapped back. "Watch it. Once I become Mrs. March I can get you fired." Elizabeth snapped back. "I'd rather be fired than to work for a cold hearted bitch like you. I know you don't love James. I can tell." Jazmine tightened Elizabeth's corset, she barely used profanities but when she did, she really meant it. "Well he can't, and that's all that matters." She said truthfully. "You don't deserve him." Jazmine said as she walked out of the room.

Tears ran down the woman's face as she walked to her room. She cried as she wrote a letter, writing to both James and Hazel. She apologized for leaving them, especially on the day James was getting married. She congratulated him and ending off her note. She walked over to her drawer and grabbed the gun she had snuck from James' room while he was busy.

She stared at the clock, making sure that everyone would be at the wedding, not walking through the halls. She waited until it was five minutes after the official wedding time. Her hand shook as placed the gun on her temple. Closing her eyes slowly, she pulled the trigger. She felt nothing, everything went black. The day Jazmine Laurie killed herself was the day someone she truly loved got married.

All this over a man?

Was all she could think of before her heart stopped beating.

The next morning James looked around the room, confused to why he didn't see his other maid standing where she'd usually stand. "Hazel, Dear." James called. "Yes, Mr. March?" The woman questioned with a smile on her face. "Where's Jazmine?" He asked, the lady squirmed awkwardly. "I-I don't know, sir. I haven't seen her since yesterday." She admitted. "Check her room, call her down." James ordered, the woman nodded as she quickly walked to the room.

Hazel knocked on Jazmine's door waiting for an answer but never got one. She furrowed her eyebrows as she called out. "Jazmine! Mr. March would like your service!" Her voice squeaked out. She still got no response, so she opened the door, the woman wasn't prepared for what was on the other side of the door. Hazel's hand went straight over her mouth at the sight of Jazmine.

"Oh, dear." The woman's voice wavered as her eyes watered. She walked over to Jazmine, hoping that their was any possible way to bring her back. But there wasn't, the bullet had went clean through her head. "Oh, god!" Hazel Evers had been completely upset, Jazmine was only twenty-six. She deserved a good life.

Hazel noticed the note, blood splattered on it. Her hand shook as she grabbed the letter. Usually she wasn't phased by seeing a dead body because of James, but it was different when it was Jazmine. Jazmine was like a daughter to Hazel. So with the note, the woman walked back down the stairs with tears falling down her face with note in her hand. She couldn't even read the letter, she was too sad and taken aback to read it.

"M-mr March." She called as she walked over to the tall man. "What is wrong?" He asked, his smile slightly dropping seeing the woman's current state, it was completely different from when she first was down in the lobby. "She—just here." The woman handed James the letter as she walked away.

Dear James and Hazel,

I truly apologize for leaving you on such a beautiful day. I wanted you two to know that I appreciate you both for being there for me when I first arrived here at The Cortez. Hazel, you welcomed me with opened arms and taught me everything I needed to know about cleaning. James you welcomed me, it took a few weeks for you to come around, but you did and you gave me a home. I'll miss you two and I'll never forget the two people who helped me find a place to call home.

Congratulations on your wife James.

From Jazmine Laurie, To James Patrick March and Hazel Evers.

James' jaw clenched as he looked over to Hazel, she sat on the chair with her head in her hands. "Hazel, let's go." James called as he walked upstairs, Hazel slowly followed behind not wanting to go back to Jazmine's room.

James entered slowly, seeing the scene in front of him. He closed his eyes taking in a deep breath. "Clean this up." James ordered, Hazel nodded slowly, watching as James exited.

He was mad at himself, he let one of his best maids die. How come he couldn't hear the gunshot? But then again, he was mad at Jazmine. Whatever she was going through, why couldn't she tell him?
He could've helped her. He was thirty-one, only five years older than her, he could've understood what she was going through, they were close enough in age to somewhat relate to whatever she was going through. You'd think he'd feel some type of way because he liked killing so much, but he cared for Jazmine even though he barely showed it. And seeing her laying there on the ground with no life in her eyes made him feel like screaming, or crying, but he didn't want to show it.

His Jazmine was gone, and he couldn't even stop her from killing herself.
