-Roses POV-
I laid there in darkness for what felt like forever, I occasionally had a horrible dream of the outside world and my life before the maze. I would scream at the sight of all the horror and I knew the Gladers could hear the screams too. Other times I laid there unable to move or see or even stop the screaming I knew I was doing. I heard voices around and felt the touch off people but couldn't do anything about it. I would listen to Newt's voice as he held my hand whispering.
"I know you probably can't hear this but I feel like I need to talk to you." He said. "I miss you so much, the days are long and dim without your smile to light it up. I have been working in the gardens I couldn't bring myself to run the maze without you. I wish I could never leave your side but Alby says I have to do my part even though I say my life means nothing without you. I would kill myself right now if that meant you would live, and if you died I would kill myself to be with you. Please wake up Rose, I need you. Please fight so I can see you again. I love you more than anything."
He'd go on until he couldn't anymore. I wanted to squeeze his hand back, I wanted to tell him I loved him too, but I was trapped in a black abyss distant from the world. I tried every time I was out of my dreams to will myself to wake up to just let them know that I'm still here. But no matter how hard I tried I couldn't wake up.
After what felt like an eternity, I felt my eye flutter. I felt a rush of happiness flow through me and I pushed myself to open my eyes.
I opened my eyes and was greeted with the sun peaking out through the windows. I stared at the sealing and then heard Newt's voice beside me.
"Oh thank God." He said, I turned to see him siting on a chair next to the bed holding my hand. His face looked relieved to see me but he looked different like he was holding something in.
"Newt." I whispered, he smiled and I pushed myself up. He moved from the chair to the bed, he placed a hand on my cheek. I saw tears welling up in his eyes, I smiled and leaned into his hand.
"I missed you so much." He said rubbing his thumb in circles on my cheek. He leaned forward and kissed me softly, it felt so good to finally be with him.
"I missed you too." I whispered still to weak to speak up.
"I thought......." He stopped and tears fell down his cheeks, I reached up and wiped them from his face. "I thought you were going to die. Your heart stop at least twice."
"I wasn't going to leave you." I said trying to comfort him. He looked embarrassed and ashamed, why? "Newt? What's wrong?"
"I-l, when I watched you scream in pain and I couldn't do anything about it. I felt like I was letting you down like I was not a good boyfriend because I couldn't stop your pain." He said looking ashamed of himself.
"Newt it wasn't your fault." I said feeling tears welling in my eyes.
"But it was. I didn't go with you, I wasn't there to protect you." He said shaking his head.
"It wasn't your choice to stay behind." I said. "Don't blame yourself."
"But I did, I wasn't brave like you, I was weak." He said looking even more ashamed. "Rose, I tried to kill myself. I climb half way up the walls and jump."
"Newt?" I said tears flowing down my face.
"I couldn't live without out you, I couldn't live with the pain." He said crying too. "I'm sorry Rose. I was being selfish, I didn't think that if you did wake up you would feel the same way I did when you weren't here. You would've killed yourself too and it would've been my bloody fault."
"Newt I understand." I said. "I know it's so hard to see me in pain, just like I was when I saw you in my dreams. I wanted to take your place, I wanted them to beat me and not you. But maybe next time wait until you know I'm dead before you join me." I said with a smile, he laughed. "Promise me you won't try that again."
"I promise." He said kissing me, I kissed back through my tears. "Promise me you won't ever leave me again."
"I promise." I said. He picked me up and put me on his lap, I placed my hands on his chest and barrier my face in his chest. "I love you."
"I love you too." He replied, he held my waist tight. Someone came bursting in the door, it was Alby.
"Thank goodness you're awake." He said. "Oh sorry I interrupted something. I'll just go, I'm glad to see you're ok Rose." He left the room quietly, I snuggled back into Newt's chest as we laid down on the bed. I heard Alby yell at people to leave us alone, I felt Newt's chest lift with a chuckle. I was so happy to be in his arms again.
"I could get use to this." He said holding me as close to him as possible.
"Me too." I replied. "Why'd we wait till I almost died to cuddle?" He laughed and I smiled to myself.
"I don't know, we should do it more often." He said.
"We should." I said laughing too. "I mean who knows how much time we have alive or what will happen next. We should spend as much time as we can together."
