We ran and ran occasionally taking breaks for water or food. Our faces were covered in beads of sweat and we were panting for air. I loved the feeling as we run it felt like I was leaving all my worries and I could run away from anything. We made it to the end of our section and stopped for a well deserved break.
"You shanks are doing pretty good for your first time." Minho said drinking his water.
"Did you expect worse?" I asked.
"I didn't know what to expect." He replied, we sat there in silence for awhile until he spoke again. "Now that we're alone I have to ask a question, in which you do not have to answer, but your silence will be considered as a yes."
"What's the bloody question?" Newt asked.
"Are you two a thing?" Minho asked with a smirk. I looked to Newt who was blushing and I could feel my cheeks getting warm. "So you are." Minho said when we just starred at each other.
"Well, he actually hasn't asked me yet." I said.
"Then what you wanting for shank?" Minho said. "Ask the girl."
Newt turned even redder and I just smiled at him. "Minho, he'll ask me when he's ready." I say, I didn't want Minho to be there when he asked and I think that's what Newt was thinking too.
"It's not like I'm going to bloody do it when your watching." Newt said and I laughed.
"I actually do." I said. Without a word he stood and put his pack on, Newt stood too and gave me his hand to help me up. We ran the rest of the way in silence, and made it back in the Glade just in time. We stood outside the doors panting for air, the boom of the doors sounded, and slid closed. I laid down on the grass, I was so tired, Newt joined me.
"Aw, our two lovers laying together." Minho said hovering above us. "You better get use to it shanks, you're doing it every day." He walked away with a smirk on his face.
"Remember you made me do this." Newt said, I turned my head to look at his face.
"I did not you volunteered." I said, and sat up wanting him to get the point. He sat up too.
"Did too." He said grabbing my waist and pulling me into his arms and tickled me. I laughed and tried to push him off.
"I did not, you said you wanted to be with me." I said through my laughs. "Stop!........ Newt!" He stopped tickling me but still held on my waist.
"I love you." He said whispering in my ear. I felt a chill go down my spine as his breath hit my neck, and his words pierced my heart. I knew I loved him, I knew it.
"I love you too." I said back. "But you still haven't asked me."
"Rose, my love, will you be my girlfriend." He asked standing up and helping me up.
"Took you long enough." I said with a smile. "Of course." He smiled and wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed me. I was surprised that he did it where everyone could see, but I think he doesn't care what the Gladers think and neither do I. I kissed back and we shared a passionate kiss.
"What are you shanks doing?" I heard Alby ask next to us. We pulled apart and and I felt embarrassed.
"What does it look like?" Newt asked sarcastically.
"I mean, why?" He said looking a little angry.
"Because she's my girlfriend, and I love her." Newt said, I was surprised at how bold he was, and I knew he cared a lot.
"Whatever it's not my business." Alby said shaking his head. "You better not be to showy about your love life, or the other boys might get jealous."
"It's not like they ever had a chance." I said. "We don't care what they think."
"Suite yourselves just don't come to me when they act out." He said walking away.
"Don't worry we won't." Newt said to no one in particular. We looked at each other and smiled. We were in each others embrace before we could stop ourselves. We were so in love and we couldn't help it.
