Spinning me around to face him, our lips touch and move in sync. Kissing Newt made all your worries go away like you were free from pain, but then reality comes and you realize you live in the Glade. Where all your troubles never go away.

It was 5:50, you know what that means. The doors are about to close in ten minutes. Ben's banishment.
I stood in the back of the group forming a semi circle around the doors. I didn't want to look into Ben's eyes when he begs for mercy. I hear hard breathing behind me and turn to see Minho pushing Ben forward. He looks like a total stranger. His eyes are bloodshot, veins crawl up his neck and cheeks, his skin pale white.
Minho pushes him into the semi circle and cuts the rope restraining Ben. He coughs out black liquid. His eyes ramped with craziness. "Please no! No!" He screams.
My blood runs cold as Alby screams. "Poles!" The Gladers lower the long poles and push Ben into the maze as the doors begin to close. I couldn't watch anymore, so I turn and walk the other way. I slide down the trunk of a tree in the Deadheads, I could still see the Gladers. I burry my head in my knees hug my legs to my chest.
I'm going to miss Ben.
I wake up against the tree, I see Alby, Minho, and Newt gathered around the doors. The doors haven't opened yet, so I make my way over to them. They were talking, but shushed when I approached.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"Oh good morning love, Alby and Minho are going into the maze, to retrace Ben steps." Newt said as I got closer, the boom of the doors sounded and I hugged Alby and Minho goodbye.
I sat against a log watching as Newt and Zart chopped at the roots of a tree. Thomas stood to my left asking his non stop questions.
"But why would Alby go into the maze? I mean he's not a runner." Thomas asked.
"Things are different, Alby went to retrace Ben's footsteps before sundown." Newt answered. "Are you gonna help?"
"So he's gone back to where Ben just got stung-"
"Alby knows what he's doing..... all right?" Newt interrupted. "He knows better than any of us."
"What does that mean?" Thomas asked.
"Well it's like you've heard, yeah?" Newt response. "Every month, the box sends up a new arrival. But someone had to be first, right? Someone had to have spent a whole month in the Glade, alone. That was Alby. I mean, it can't have been easy. But when those other boys started coming up, one after the other..... he saw the truth. And he learned that the most important thing..... is that we all have each other. Because we're all in this together." I could see the understanding growing in Thomas's eyes as he listened to Newt's words. He quickly got up and started hacking at the tree, Newt occasionally let out words of encouragement.
After watching the boys for a while I got up to go to the box where the supplies was gathered around the outside. Then out of nowhere the cold rain started to poor down my face. I quickly looked towards the Homestead where everyone was starting to gather under it's roof. I pulled my hood over my face and trudged towards the Homestead.
"Where'd all this rain come from?" I asked to no one in particular though Newt and Thomas were walking towards me. "It's never rained in the Glade while I've been here."
"Who knows, I just hope Alby and Minho make it back soon." Newt said embracing me in a warm hug.
I sat in one of the hammocks hugging my legs and playing with my fingers as I watched the rain poor down over the Glade. Newt joined me making the hammock shake a little.
"Hey Newt." I say placing my hand on his back, his eyes were laced with worry. Minho and Alby still haven't come back. "I'm sure they're fine." He nodded and pulled me close to his chest. I looked up and saw Thomas leaning against a pole nervously. There is something so familiar about him, but I can't put my finger on it.
"They should be back by now." Thomas said looking back at Newt and I. "What happens if they don't make it?"
"They're gonna make it." Newt says confidently.
"What happens if they don't?" Thomas asks again wanting an answer.
"They're gonna make." Newt says again just as confidently.
The rain had stopped and we all gathered around the doors to the maze. They were about to close and Minho and Alby weren't back.
"Come on guys, can't we send someone after them?" Thomas asks anxiously.
"That's against the rules." Gally responded.
"Either they make it back or they don't." Newt says. "We can't risk losing anyone else." I grabbed Newt's hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. Then a huge gust of wind came out the maze making me cover my eyes. The doors rang with a boom as they began to close.
"There!" Thomas shouts, and I see Minho come around the corner with Alby slung over his shoulder.
"Wait, no somethings wrong." Newt said squeezing my hand harder. The Gladers screamed words of encouragement, as I watched in silence.
"They're not gonna make it." I whispered, they were to far away and the doors were almost closed. Without warning, Thomas dashed into the maze. "Thomas no!" The doors closed, with Thomas, Minho, and Alby stuck out there for the night.
