-Newt's POV-
Another month had past and again it was Greenie day, and we all stood around the box as Gally and I opened it up. Rose wasn't here, Alby had given her a special job in the map room, which was top secret, I didn't even know. With no surprise there was another boy in the box. He had dark skin, eyes, and hair, he looked very exhausted like he had been running around in the box. Gally jumped in the box.
"Day one Greenie." He said smirking. "Rise and Shine." He threw the Greenie out of the box and onto the ground, with out hesitation the Greenie took off running.
"WE'VE GOT A RUNNER!" Zart yelled as the boy ran with amazing speed, then he face plated. All the boys stood there laughing, I laughed along and watched him. He stood up and turned in circles starring at the walls.
"Those walls are something else, uh?" Gally said approaching him. "You good, that was one nasty fall?" He brushed off the dirt from the Greenie's shirt.
"Yeah I'm fine." He said with nothing in his voice.
"Well Greenie time for you to go in the pit." Gally exclaimed and grabbed the boys arm throwing him in the pit.
I watched from the gardens as Alby showed the Greenie around the Glade, giving him the same tour he did for every Newbie. I decided I should probably stop starting and go introduce myself. I walked up to the two boys.
"Alby you alright?" I asked approaching.
"Yeah." He said smiling. "This is Newt he's in charge when I'm not around."
"Well then it good thing you're always around." I said smiling and shaking the Greenie's hand. "Listen that was some dash you made earlier for a second I thought you had the chops to be a Runner, till you face planted." I laughed. "It was Great."
"Runner, what's a Runner?" The Greenie asked with a confused look on his face.
"Do me a favor, go get Chuck." Alby said to me.
"Alright." I said walking off to find Chuck.
-Rose's POV-
I have been stuck in this tiny map room all day I even missed seeing the new Greenie. I wonder if it's another boy, there is no doubt in my mind that it is. I just have to hurry up my job and go meet the new Greenie. I was working on building a model map of the Glade and had almost finished, no one except Minho and Alby knew about it. It was hard keeping a secret from Newt but ever time I would accidentally almost say something, he would but a finger over my mouth and say, "If Alby doesn't want me to know it for a good reason." And I nodded. At least he was ok with it, it made it easier.
I finally finished and took a step back, the entire maze made out of sticks, rocks and plants. I let out a sigh and stepped out of the map room, I let out a groan when I was greeted with the dark sky of night. I had literally been in there all day. I saw the orange and red flicker of the fire and knew the bonfire had started. I made my way through the trees to were every Glader was Gathered.
"Hey look who decided to show up." Gally said brushing his hands on his pants.
"Alby and Minho had me working my butt off." I said in return. "I'm sure you have gotten your butt kicked by one of theses shanks."
"Not yet, but be my guest and try." He said smirking. "Not that you'll be able too."
"Oh, you're on." I said while tying my hair up in a messy bun.
"Everyone! Gally's about to get his but kicked by Rose!" Fry yelled.
"I wouldn't be so sure about that." Gally said cracking his knuckles.
I got into the circle of boys and starred down Gally, I was waiting for him to make the first move. He charged after me, I knew he would do that, so I dodged out of the way. He went stumbling forward, I turned around and focused back on him. He charged again and this time with out him expecting it I squatted down and spun in a circle connecting my leg with his ankles and sweeping his feet from underneath him. He landed on the ground groaning, the Gladers shouted with cheers.
"Not that bad for a girl, ay?" I asked him. He got back up with his eyes bulging with anger. He charged again and this time he threw me backwards, I fell on my back tripping over a boy. He stumbled but got up straightening his shirt, I had never seen him before making me think he was the new Greenie. My back stung with pain as I wiggled around. He looked very familiar like I have seen him many times before.
"Oh, hi." I said looking up at the boy, still on my back. "You must be the new Greenie? I'm Rose." Newt was standing next to him and extended a hand to help me up.
"Hey Greenie what do you say?" I heard Gally ask. "Want to see what you're made of?" The Greenie was pushed into the circle.
"You alright love?" Newt asked as I brushed the dirt off myself.
"Yeah." I said as I hissed in pain, my back felt so sore.
"You're not very convincing." He said letting out a chuckle. "Where does it hurt, I'll take a look?"
"My back." I said to him. He lifted my shirt and I felt his cold hand run down my spine. It sent a shiver through my body.
"It looks bruised." He said letting my shirt slide back down. "You should have Clint and Jeff take a look."
"Maybe tomorrow, I've been stuck inside all day I need fresh air." I said to him as the new Greenie shouted something, and we both turned towards him.
"Thomas!" He shouted. "Thomas that my name, I'm Thomas!" I felt a rush of familiarity come over me. I have heard that name.
Everyone stood there silent, until Alby shouted. "Thomas!" And they all crowded around him cheering, welcoming him to the Glade. Then a horrendous screech came from the maze and everyone went silent. I grabbed Newt's arm and he placed a hand on my waist protectively.
"What was that?" Thomas asked starring at the maze.
"That my friend was a Griever." Gally said. "Don't worry you're safe here with us. Nothing gets through those walls."
