Chapter 12: My Past

-Rose's POV-

Everyone cleared out of the hut until only Newt and I were left. I was glad Newt volunteered to go with me, he was the only one I wanted. I really hope it's because he cares for me not because he thought I couldn't do it because I'm a girl.

"I think Alby is becoming suspicious of us." He said once we were alone. He grabbed my waist and pulled me close, and I put my arms around his neck and looked into his eyes.

"I think so too." I said smiling at his touch.

"Why'd you volunteer?" He asked.

"Why'd you volunteer?" I asked sarcastically.

"Because you did." He said. "If you're going in the Maze I'm going with you. Anyway now we get to spend every day together."

"Yeah, I'm looking forward to that." I said, and he leaned in and kissed me, a feeling shot through me. He pulled away from me and rested his forehead on mine.

"Why'd you volunteer?" He asked again in a whisper.

"I don't know." I said, I really didn't know, but I knew deep down there was a reason.

"Is it because you think you have to prove yourself after what happened with Delilah." He asked innocently. I thought about it and deep down there was a part of me that needed to prove that I was not what Delilah said I was. But I also had a burning curiosity to know what's behind the walls. I also wanted to help find a way out of this place for Newt and Charlie, they don't deserve to be here.

"Partly." I replied. "I also want to figure a way out of here for you and Charlie."

"We will do that together." He said. "Starting tomorrow."

We shared one last kiss, and left for dinner. Newt and I got a couple stares when we walked out of the hut together, I didn't care if they knew about Newt and I. But technically we are not officially together, hopefully he'll ask me soon and we won't have to keep it a secret very much longer. I went to bed excited for tomorrow.

I was outside in the cold air with snow all around me. I was with a boy younger than me, I assumed it was Thomas, my brother. I was maybe 4 years old and Thomas looked 6. There was a women too, she was holding my hand and I was holding Thomas's. She had a comfort to her and I immediately knew she was our mother. She lead us to a gate where people were crowding around and were trying to get in. She lead us to the front where she talked to one of the guards at the gate.

She finished, knelt in front of us, hugged us, and whispered in our ears. "You will be safe here, remember I always love you.... always." The guards ripped us from her and lead us inside. We were to scarred to speak, but I held tight onto Thomas's hand. We were lead into a white room, where a women sat waiting for us.

"Welcome to W.C.K.D. Children please tell us your names." The women greeted us.

"My name is Lilly, and this is Stephan." I said.

"Well, here in W.C.K.D. you will receive new names." The women said. "Lilly, your new name has been selected as Rose Subject A6 Group A. Stephan your name has been selected as Thomas Subject A2 Group A."

I woke up and again was faced with the never ending list of questions in my head. I pushed them away and got ready for my first day as a Runner. I had received a new outfit in the box and I decided to wear it.

It was a olive green tank top, and black leggings. I was also given, since I was a Runner, a pair of hand gloves, and a runners pack, and a knife and holder on my hip. I was ready to be a Runner.

I made my way to breakfast, I found Newt and sat next to him, with Minho across from us.

"You ready shanks?" He asked rubbing his hands together.

"Ready as we'll ever be." Newt answered for both of us.

We filled are pack with water and food, and stood outside the doors waiting for them to open. Minho was going with us today to show us the ropes and so we don't get lost. With a loud boom the doors started to slide open, and with no delay we sprinted into the Maze.
