Emma
I turned around and saw professor Stan standing at the board writing something down. I look over at the first row of seats, then at the professor's desk. After a small debate in my head I decide to walk over to his chair and get seated behind his desk instead. I lean back putting my feet upon his desk and prepare for the yelling that's about to happen. It isn't like this was my first time being yelled at, at this point I couldn't care less what people had to say. Okay I might not always have the best manners in class but if you ask me I study better on my own anyway, who needs school.
Stan turns around and sees me seated at his chair, he smiles as he walks up to his desk, taking a seat on the edge of it and swiping my feet from his desk.
"So Miss Johansson I guess I don't have to tell you why you had to stay?" He questions rhetorical, but I answer anyway.
"No, but since you probably have a class to teach, I will let you get to that and I will takes this very informative talk as a great warning" I say sarcastically. As I get ready to stand up and walk away.
"Not so fast Johansson, Lucky for you I don't have a class right now, giving you and me plenty of time to get to know one and other."
I sigh, sitting back in the chair crossing my arms, knowing that this is the part where I will get yelled at. He sees the change in my demeanor and leans back sitting further back onto his desk.
"Realex, I'm not like you're other teachers, I don't yell at my student. However I do talk to them, and you giving me attitude is only going to make this last longer. First of I do like to say that the behavior you showed in my class today is not acceptable, therefore you will get an extra hour on Wednesday after your last class. Second, I heard what those girls said and they will also get an appropriate punishment." He says not breaking eye contact for even one second.
"Thank you" I whisper, appreciating the fact that for once I wasn't the only one getting in trouble. I was a bit taken aback by the fact that he didn't yell at me but I know when to put my pride aside and just thank someone for what they do for you. I don't know why but he made me feel safe, he was different than the others, he wasn't bothered by my misbehaving. Or my bitchy attitude. I didn't bother him.
"You're welcome, I know that you're new to this school and not all teacher will let you go off this easy but I would like you to know that I am not your enemy. I read your file, you are quite the trouble maker. So I want to make a deal with you, as long as you agree to behave in my class, you can come and talk to me when something like this happens again, instead of swearing, and I will make sure they get punished appropriately. This way I have order in my class and you don't get into trouble. Deal?"
"And why would you believe anything I have to say?" I asked skeptical.
"You know Emma, I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Respect goes both ways, as long as you hold you're end of the bargain I'm willing to listen to what you have to say."
"DEAL" I say jumping out of the chair and extending my hand. Which he shakes firmly.
"Can I ask you something?" I say
"Sure" He smiles
"Why would you give me the benefit of the doubt, like you said, you read my file, I can only imagine what's in it."
"Let's just say I recognize your behavior because my life was pretty similar to yours when I was younger. I hope you understand that I can't tell you, I don't know you yet, so I don't know if I can trust you or not." It was strange how he talked to me, usually teacher think and act like they are better than us, but not him, he talked to me like I was worth something.
"And let me be clear, trust is earned not given. Like I said I'm not your enemy but don't make me one. " He said his voice slightly raised.
"Okay that's enough lecturing for one day, you can go. O and please tell Tom that I got his mail and that I will see what I can do for him."
I made my way out of his class room and couldn't help but smile to myself, for the first time in a long time it felt like I had someone how had my back, I know it's silly, he is my teacher and all, but still, I can't help but feel relieved after talking to him. Maybe that extra hour on Wednesday isn't so bad. Although I still am going to have to explain it to Scarlett.
