The first day was a hit. Madden and I went around to give the dogs snacks and took Spooky back with the other kittens.

We walked into his office and mom had left a container of cookies for us.

"Aww, look mom left us some cookies." I smiled opening the container.

"Your mom is sweet and the cookies were a hit with the people and dogs. Hopefully, it gets her some business and keeps her busy."

"I'm hoping so. On the surface, she seems great but I hear her crying in her bedroom at night. I couldn't imagine being married to someone for over forty years and then they are just gone."

"Reyah that would be the ultimate heartbreak." He said as we sit down.

"Let's take a look at numbers again shall we?" I said to change the subject before I cry.

"Do you ever want to get married and have children?" He asked.

"Umm yeah and my mom prefers it being yesterday because she informed me she wants grandchildren before she dies."

"Ha! Mom says the same thing to me and Jerrick all the time." He laughs grabbing another cookie.

"Glad I'm not the only one then." I smiled at him.

"I can't thank either of you enough for what you have done for this shelter. I think it needed another pair of eyes."

"It's my pleasure and don't worry about next year we can do it again and I'm sure if mom doesn't donate then I will."

"That's very generous of you Reyah. I feel like I have known you forever and I really appreciate all of the help."

"You don't have to keep thanking me Madden. I have enjoyed helping you but I must admit at first I grumbled when mom said to volunteer." I laughed.

"No!" Madden said holding his heart.

"Don't be so dramatic." I laughed.

"So what are our numbers? How many dogs did we adopt out this evening?"

"Ummm let me see." I looked scrolling down the page. "Wow, Madden we adopted eleven dogs and three cats."

"Wow, that's great! The shelter was getting too full and I'm a no-kill and there was no way I would put any of them to sleep."

"That's what dad liked about this shelter and donated how he did." I smiled.

We locked eyes for a brief second and I just couldn't look away and he couldn't either.

I was getting lost in his chocolate color eyes. It was like a sea of chocolate.

"Hopefully we will have as good of a turnout tomorrow." He smiled.

"Yeah, let's hope so. Well, I better get home. Take those cookies with you because I don't need them." I laughed.

"Oh, you don't have to tell me twice. I'm going home to sit in front of the fire and eat these cookies." He laughed.

"I'm jealous Madden."

"You can come with me Reyah and I'll share the cookies and a fire." He smiled.

"How can I resist?"

"We can have cookies and beer and I'll even order pizza."

"You had me at pizza." I laughed as I put on my coat and toboggan and followed him outside.

I followed him to his house. Reyah what is wrong with you?? Why are you going to this man's house again?

As soon as we walked into his house he ordered the pizza and went and started the fire as I stood and stared out the sliding glass door.

When he walked back into the kitchen he walked over to where I was. "Is it snowing again?"

"When is it not snowing in Manchester?" I laughed.

"Yeah true. We had a lot of snow days growing up but we still had to go to school."

"Yeah throw chains on the school bus and away we went." I smiled.

"Here let me help you with your coat." He said as I took my toboggan off and sit it on the dining room table.

It wasn't long until his doorbell went off and he went opened the door and took the pizza.

"Will you grab a couple of beers out of the fridge?" He asked.

"Sure I can do that."

"If you need a plate it's in the cabinet on the right of the sink." He said.

"Nah I'm good eating out of the box if you are." I smiled.

"A girl after my own heart." He laughed.

I grabbed two beers. If I'm not careful I'll let him have mine.

I sit down on the floor next to him and handed him a beer. "Thanks for dinner."

"You're more than welcome. Thanks for keeping me company." He smiled.

My phone beeped and I pulled it out of my back pocket.

📱 Reyah where are you?

📱 I'm with Madden mom.

📱 Ok just checking! I'm going to bed how many animals got adopted?

📱 Eleven dogs and three cats. Goodnight mom love you! I'll be home later.

I looked over at Madden and laughed.

"What's so funny?"

"My mom! She wanted to know how many animals were adopted and where I was and I told her I was with you and she said looking at the wood again? With a winky face."

"Wait what? Why is that funny?" He chuckled.

"Because she thought wood was a code word for penis."

He choked on his beer. "She thought I invited you over to look at my penis?"

"Yesterday morning she did." I laughed.

"Wow! Well, that's pretty funny if you think about it but no I don't have a habit of showing it to just anyone." He laughed.

"I sure would hope not Madden." I laughed bumping into his shoulder.

"Can we look at the traffic on my Facebook page?" He asked.

"Sure can I see your phone and I'll look?"

He hands me his phone. "So many likes on the dog pictures and a few people have questions I'll answer if you don't mind."

"No, I don't mind at all. I would rather you do it than for me." He smiled finishing off his beer.
