chapter twenty

I have never seen Maya cried before.

I shouldn't have insisted and just let her mum be.

I led her to her room and she cried holding me. I honestly felt like crying cos I don't like to see people cry especially now that she's crying on my shoulder.

Her cry died down and I stood up to get her a glass of water. I came back and she drank it all

I kept patting her back till her tears dried

"Maya I'm soo sorry. If I know it would result to this, I wouldn't have insisted to meet her. I'm sorry" I said holding her hands

"No problem. It's not your fault. I was just reminded of the past that's why. But I'm willing to tell you the truth now" she said sniffing and I nodded

"My mum....mum....she's..."Maya started with her lips quivering and I hugged her giving her the courage to continue

"my mum is already in her grave. She's dead long ago"she whispered crying lowly

I stopped dead in my track and I couldn't do anything that moment

I think doctors would call it partial time paralysed. I know it doesn't make sense but that's what is happening to me now

I'm paralysed for a partial time before I hugged Maya tightly both of us sobbing together.

" you should have told me girl. That's what besties are made for. They tell each other secrets. I can't believe you are hiding this from me whereby I can never hide such from you."I scolded her crying

"I know but I just didn't want to blurt it out. I don't know how to say it. Growing without a mother was so bad that I don't want to remind myself of my mum if not, I can be sick for days. I'm sorry I didn't mean to keep it from you" she said

"I understand. I'm sorry too" I said rocking her back and forth

We cried for what it felt like hours and was not willing to stop till someone knocked and we couldn't even answer

The person knocked again and just opened the door.

Oh fish! It was Maya's dad

We gently pulled away from each other with our eyes looking like factory of red oil

"What's happening baby" her father asked worriedly as he approached her

"Nothing dad. Just some girly stuffs" she said faking a laugh and I chuckled

"But...your eyes are very red and puffy. Tell me the truth" he said holding her

"Dad it's actually about mum" she admitted looking down

His face changed from worried to sad and....? I don't know

He stood up and left and Maya told me everything

Maya's mum died when Maya was just 2years old in a mysterious way. Not that mysterious but her neck was showing signs of being squeezed with a rope

Everyone was sad especially her dad who was out of his head that time. He was shattered and vowed that he will never ever replaced Maya's mum with another woman. He promise to raise his only daughter by his own and swore to give her all she could ask for,not the ones above his powers.

That's how Maya became motherless

We wrote the tests and everything and I went back home. After 3days,the result was out and we were given admission. I cried of happiness that day

Now,another happy moment is ahead of me,that's the graduation day. I'm eager for two weeks to come for the event.

Today I am not going to school so I am on my bed reading a novel when someone opened my door quietly and stepped in

I didn't bother looking up cos I know it is my mum. She walked closer and sat on my bed.

"Which book are you reading sisi" my mum said with a man's voice.

That's weird cos I am her daughter not her sister and she's calling me sisi,using a man's voice

"Arrow of destiny mum" I replied looking at her and looking back to my book

Wait,its not her,its him and then that's when realization hits me

"Uncle Haroooooon" I shouted almost jumping on him but I composed myself thinking back to what my mum said

'Khair, you're a girl,better act like one cos all this jumping on uncle Haroon that you use to do,you have to stop it cos you are a grown up and it's a siiiinnn. Don't say I didn't tell you'. Says my mum

"Khaaaaiiiirrr" He said opening his arms for me and I looked down

"What's wrong?" He asked putting down his hand in disappointment

"Aren't you happy to see me?" He added calmly

"I'm happy but mum said....you know" I replied calmly also

"Oh ok I get. Well,I bought my curtains for you in case,you know" he said changing the subject as he laughed and I joined him

"Kai uncle" I said hitting his shoulder.

My phone was ringing continuously and I refuse to pick knowing its Maya. She have been ignoring me since when she told me about her mum and I don't know what I did. I would call her several time,she won't pick up,texts,she won't reply and I honestly don't know what to do about it again

"Khair, pick this phone up. Its disturbing my eardrums" uncle Haroon said irritated

She called again and I picked

"Hello" I said as I held it close to my ear.

"Khair I'm so sorry. Pls don't think I'm ignoring you. Since that day that I told you about my mum and my dad got reminded of her,he was sick seeing me cry like that and I have been busy taking care of his health,not like actually taking care of his health, but he wants me close to him. I'm sorry" she explained

"Oh don't apologize. How's your dad's health?"

"Better. I'm coming over to your house now" she informed

"Whaaaatt??! Now?its 8:55pm girl" I exclaimed looking at the wall clock

"Shhhhh" uncle Haroon shushed me

"Yeah I know. I'm coming for sleep over. I'm coming now. Byeeee" Maya said

"Ma...." Before I could reply,she hanged  up.

How can she come out late in the night by this time like this? My parents won't allow me to go out when its exactly 6pm

I told my mum about Maya coming over now and she was like 'what the hell' but she agreed.

As soon as I went back to parlour to sit,I heard knocking by the gate.

It couldn't be her,could she?
Like,it wasn't up to 3minutes that we finished talking and she's already here?

Did she have a flying car or a teleporting car? I guess so

"Uncle Haroon go get the door" I commanded teasingly and he glared at me

"Pls" I added with a sad look and he stood up to get it.

He went outside and came inside

"Khair,you have a boyfriend? Cos a man is at the door saying he's looking for you" he said with a serious face

A man?what? Looking for me? But....
