Audra & Adrian
Weeks have passed since their strange meeting at the club. Adrian continues to try to stay away from pretty much everyone. The jolt he got from Audra shook him up. Landon still pried when he could to get any information possible out of him, but it never worked.
Who would believe him anyway?
He thought no one until he had his interview with that reporter. Cecelia wouldn't leave him alone after that. She was incredibly persistent. After constantly nagging him to meet up with her—he finally gave in. He would talk to her one last time, then maybe she'd get the hint and leave him alone.
The next Friday, he went to the address she had given him. It was near to the grocery store where he worked. Rain lingered in puddles on the street, making him dodge certain areas for fear he'd transform before he got this over with. When he stepped into the cafe, the smell of freshly roasted coffee hit his nose.
Ugh, of all the places to meet.
Shrugging that off—Adrian searches the restaurant for Cecelia. He's halfway through the dining area when something out of the corner of his eye catches his attention...Audra. She's here? Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no.
"Nope."
"Adrian! Wait!"
Suddenly, he's stuck between the door, her, and that annoying reporter. Both women look at him with uneasy smiles. He's slowly inching away from them and in a shocking move—Adrian darts through the middle to a hallway behind the counter. Workers gasp in surprise. Several dishes clatter to the floor as he flies by.
"Well, damn..."
Cecelia apologizes to the owner once she recovers. Without thinking twice about it, Audra had slipped out the front door to catch him. In the alley between buildings is where she finds him, bracing himself on the wall. As soon as their eyes meet—he's off again. Crap, this wasn't how she saw this happening at all. She thought he might be happy to see her, or did she just imagine the way he looked at her in the club?
"Adrian...please."
"I'm sorry, but I've gotta go."
"Why?"
"Huh? What do you mean, why? Because..."
She's now within a few steps of him. The hopeful expression on her face has him curious. How can she not know why he's so skittish? He would think she'd be the same way, but she seems really well adjusted. Every second he stands there wondering about her—she moves forward. Before he knows it, she's right in front of him.
"Touch me."
"Excuse me?"
God, what is he doing?
"I said...touch me."
"This is weird."
"Just do it!"
With a bit of a frown on her face, Audra closes the distance to touch his arm. That familiar zap travels through him. Just like before, his gills start to form. Her frown instantly changes into an open gasp. One hand flies to cover her mouth while the other latches on to his arm. The longer it stays—the more pronounced his gills become.
"Holy..."
The muttered word by her is finished in astonishment by him.
"Shit!"
Both of them together exclaim...
"You have powers too!"
This changes everything.
