EDEN WAS NEVER really fond of celebrating her birthday. Don't get her wrong, she loved having a day pretty much all to herself and enjoyed people remembering what day it was. But she also liked spending it that way— a day to herself.
This is why at exactly 11:59, just a minute before her 18th, she found herself once again at the top of the library's broken clock tower. Clad in her outdated plaid Christmas pajama pants and a giant black hoodie she probably stole from Ethan. Scratch that; she definitely stole it from Ethan.
This was something she had done every year since she got to Storybrooke, and she wasn't going to change it anytime soon. She even made sure to ask Granny to make her favorite cupcakes a few days prior— red velvet with cream cheese frosting.
She had one in her hand as she used the other to open the small slot cut in the face of the enormous clock. From there, she could see the North Star. It always shined brightest on her birthday, and she was drawn to it every time. She felt like a modern-day Rapunzel.
She quickly grabbed the purple lighter out of her pants pocket and lit the cupcake before rolling her shoulders and closing her eyes. She searched her brain for the best wish she could cook up.
And at exactly midnight, she blew the candle out, then watched as the light smoke flew out through the open slot of the clock.

As Eden made her way back inside her apartment, she was startled to see Ethan sprawled out across their white couch snoring. She slapped a hand over her heart, releasing a held breath, before slowly closing the door behind her.
She walked over to shake him awake, but the minute her hand made contact with his shoulder, he shot up— scaring the brunette once again.
"Dude!" Ethan looked around confused before his eyes landed on his sister. "Oh my god! I think I just had a mini heart attack."
"Oh good, you're back." Ethan walked over to her and squeezed her into a big hug, rocking side to side. "Happy Birthday, Loser!!" He leaned back and patted her cheek twice before walking into the kitchen.
"Why were you on the couch?"
"I was waiting up for you so I could be the first to say happy birthday," he responded, with a proud smirk on his face. "Not letting Henry beat me to it this time."
The elder grabbed a cookie from the jar on the white counter, stuffing half of it in his mouth. "Okay, I'm going to bed," Ethan muffled, cookie crumbs flying from his mouth. He left to his room with a wave as Eden made her way to hers.
