“Complete this sentence: I wish I had someone with whom I could share…”
Safa was hesitant to answer that question. Even though it was her turn to answer, I took the lead.“ I wish I had someone with whom I could share these long drives with, once in a while. Someone with whom I could just eat until we threw up. Someone with whom I could share my debts.” I looked at her from the corner of my eye and saw her smile drop.
“You surely are the romance ninja.” Sarcasm was dripping through her, which was one of her traits that I fell in love with.
“Of couse I am! If you need proof, then step outside the car and you’ll see what you’re missing.”
She gave me a challenging look and got outside. The wrinkle between her eyebrows eased and a subtle spark overtook her eyes. She slowly made her way to the fence and clenched it between her fingers.
She gasped and whispered, “this is so beautiful.”The beautiful view from the hilltop made everything looked so tiny. Lights scattered as far as our view could reach and the soft wind kissing our faces made everything perfect. The radiance on her face was more beautiful than what her eyes were mesmerized by.
“I wish I had someone with whom I could share my deepest darkest secrets with, without the fear of being judged. I wish I had someone with whom I could be ‘me’, unapologetically. I wish I had someone with whom I could spend the rest of my life with.”
“And I wish I had the power to turn your wishes into reality.” The wind was strong enough to drown my words but it didn’t matter if she heard it or not.
I felt a sudden warmth spread through my chest as Safa embraced me into a hug. The warmth and scent was so familiar that I held her closer into my chest. I took a deep breath to pull in her intoxicating scent. My chest started to wet as my shirt absorbed her tears.
Shr broke our hug and looked at me with teary eyes, “thank you for bringing me here. I never thought that I would get to witness this beautiful sight.”
I cleared my throat and exhaled deeply before saying, “your wish is my command. Where to next mam?”
“Mam? Alright then. Could you please escort me to my palace? I would like to get back home before supper.”
“As you say ma lady.” I took a bow and opened the door before her and gently closed it after she sat comfortably in the car.
We spent our way back home in total silence. The silent breeze and the smile across Safa’s face did all the talking. I don’t know if it was a ‘date’ or friends spending the day together. But whatever it was, it meant more than I had expected.
