I’m taking Safa home, drop Marwa in two hours.
BEHAVE.I texted Daniyal and started my car. Sarah came down to bid good bye while I waited for Safa. She came down and tried to open the back door which I had locked while I saw her making her way there.
“Sorry, that’s jammed. You can sit in the front”, I said and looked at the road ahead of me.
She hesitated a bit before she got in. It was awfully quiet and I didn’t like to listen to the sound of traffic, assuming that we would be stuck there for a long time, I pulled up the windows.
I noticed Safa stick to the door, if someone were to open it from the outside, she would had fallen right off. She seemed too uncomfortable so I turned on the radio to release the tension but to my surprise, all of the stations were playing romantic songs as it was Valentine’s week. The RJ's advise on how to make the 'rose day', the perfect day for your Valentine was making it very awkward for both Safa and me and I turned it off.
*Knock* *knock*
I saw a kid standing in front of my door and I slid the window down.
“20 rupees only sir”, he said and lifted his hand full of red roses. It was like God trying to get Safa and me back together.
“It’s ok, we don’t need any roses”, Safa immediately responded which made me chuckle.
“I’m very hungry, please sir”, the boy insisted.
My dad always had something to eat in the car and after having a good look, I found two packets of chips which I handed to him along with some money. His eyes beamed with joy which made my evening. He handed me two roses but I denied.
“Please take sir.”
“I’ll take just one”, I said and smiled at him. He gladly agreed to it and ran to the other side of the road where he handed one pack of chips to a girl who shared similar facial features with him and they started eating.
I sat there playing with the rose in my hand. I wanted to give it to Safa but at that moment, her back was facing me. I turned on the radio again and stopped at the station which was playing 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran.
Even with the radio on, it was awfully quiet and I tried to turn the awkward car ride into a kareoke. “Darling just hold my hand, be my girl and I’ll be your man.” I looked at her from the corner of my eye. Even though I couldn’t see her face, I could see her cheek muscles move and it warmed my heart.
I had an adrenaline rush and couldn’t stop smiling over the fact that she was smiling and I continued, “ I have faith in what I see. Now I know I have met an angel in person and she looks perfect… I don’t deserve this, you look perfect tonight.” I turned towards her and caught her looking at me.
“I forgot how beautiful your voice is”, she said with a smile and turned away.
I wanted to give her the rose and called her , “Safa…”
“The signal turned green”, she said.
As the honking behind my car intensified, I kept the rose aside and drove. We were just ten minutes away from Safa's place when we reached another signal. Instead of going straight, I took a turn and she panicked.
“Why did you take a turn? My house is further down the road”, she said and looked at me.
“I know. Relax”
“Where are we going?”
“ Don't worry, I'm not going to kidnap you”. I smiled.
She was about to say something but kept quiet and sat back. I wanted to find the perfect spot to give her that rose as my last opportunity was ruined. After driving for a while, we reached our destination. It was the same lake were we often spent time together.
