My mind instantly went back to Marwa and my visit to the boarding school in Waynad. “You are the principal of the boarding school. Marwa and I had met you.”

" That was a pleasant meeting. Wasn't it."

“ What are you doing here? Where is Ayaan?” I started screaming, “Ayaan! Stop hiding and come out.”

“Sshhh. Stop screaming. It’s not good for you. You need to be well for your surgery.”

I looked at her in shock, “what do you know?”

“I know everything honey.” Her smile instantly dropped and I took several steps back. I know it was crazy to be terrified of a middle aged woman but she was giving me all the wrong vibes and I wanted to get out of there. I made my way towards the entrance and like expected, I was hit by something hard. An electric wave rushed from the back of my head to my spine and I lost balance. Before I knew it, I had passed out.

**********

A cold splash of water over my face jolted me back to consciousness. I kept panting to catch my breath. I tried to wipe my eyes off the droplets of water that were making it difficult for me to get a clear vision but my hands were restricted, and so were my legs and abdomen. After several attempts, I gave up and eased my body and tried to stay calm as my headache was starting to kick in.

As my senses were coming back, I could hear soft quiver and it sounded familiar. I lifted my head slowly as the shooting pains from the back of my head made it difficult. I turned around and saw Safa tied up in the chair right behind me. Her eyes and mouth were tied too but they were drenched with her tears.

My heart ached at the sight of her helpless self. I looked around and we were in the same cottage. It was just Safa and me there.

“Safa! Safa!”

She quickly recognized my voice and started talking but it came out as a mumble. I struggled to fight back my tears seeing her that way and tried to turn my chair around. Once I reached her, I pulled myself up and pushed the eyepatch with my mouth before resting myself back on the chair as it was very restrictive.

She shut her eyes tightly before slowly opening them. As she saw me, a fresh pool of tears left gushed and she continued to mumble. I nodded and moved closer to her to move the cloth tied around her mouth. She hesitated as my lips got closer to her and looked away. I tried my best not to touch her lips with mine and succeeded in pulling it out a little from the side of her cheek. With the help of her shoulder, she pushed it below her neck and was breathing heavily as the tears continued to drench her cheeks.

“I thought you left with Ayaan?”

She sniffed before answering, “I did. But Ayaan misread the time of our flight. It is at 1 am and not 1 pm Since we missed it, he wanted to show me someplace and got me here. Once we got here, a few goons attacked us and I don’t know where is Ayaan.” she started crying again.

“Ayaan sent those goons!” I said and clenched my jaw to stop myself from saying anything further that would get us into a fight.

“Why don’t you trust him? He has changed! I don’t know where he is and I am really worries about him.” She sniffed and started screaming, “Ayaan! Ayaan! Can you hear me?.”

I chuckled. “How can you be so naive?”

She didn’t respond and looked the other way. For several moments there was complete silence as I tried to free myself but it was too tight.

“That is it?”, we heard Grace as she made her way towards us. “Are you serious? I was waiting in the other room so that the Romeo and Juliet would reunite, share a few words of love but nothing?” She sat on the couch and looked at us with the same creepy smile.
