It was probably one of the most satisfying sights that I had witnessed. Seeing Ayaan waiting for me made me so happy that it was hard to put it in words. He looked like he was more desperate than me and I was thoroughly enjoying watching the creases on his forehead and his fingers meddling with the mug in front of him.

Reluctantly, I went towards him as I wasn’t sure what was going on in his mind. I kept reminding myself to stay calm and not give him the pleasure of seeing me in pain or desperation.

I pulled out my phone and started recording before approaching him. I had to collect as much evidence as I could against him.

“Sorry to keep you waiting. I wasn’t expecting you here today.”

His frown turned into a smile in a split second. “Where else would I be? After all it’s my turn now.”

“I don’t understand.”

“And that is why we are here. Please.” He directed me towards the empty seat in front of him.

He had a wide smile across his face. He stared at me without twitching his eye and his eyes reflected utter joy. It was a completely different person who was seated in front of me. This man didn’t seem cruel or revengeful.

“I’m sorry, I’m not able to contain myself. It feels like two best friends having a reunion”, he said as he leaned on the table between us.

Though he was being nice, it annoyed me. I wish I could be nice to him too but I couldn’t even if I tried.

“I wish I could say the same. Who would have thought that you would ever get out of those four walls?”

His smile shrunk a little but didn’t fade away. “What can I say? It is one of God’s greatest miracles.”

“So why did you want to meet me?”

“Why wouldn’t I? You were my only companion while I was there.... healing.”

“Speaking of healing. I thought you were paralyzed.”

“Oh yes.” He said, looking at his feet. “You know, I really owe you a lot. If it weren’t for your kind words and visits, I would have never been motivated enough to be able to stand on my feet again.”

Every single word that came out of his mouth was striking me and I was losing my patience. “Oh really? Get to the point. What do you want?”

He chuckled and fixed his jacket. “I knew you were faking it. How can you be relaxed? You must be petrified that I’m here.”

“Why are you here?”

“Aaah.” He rested on his chair and continued, “ I’m here to return the favor.”

“You really think that Safa will fall for your tricks and get back with you?”

“I don’t think, I know it. And I’m not here to win Safa back. I’m here to see you lose.” His grin returned and he was starting to look like himself.

“Whatever problem you have with me, you can deal it with me. You don’t have to bring Safa into this.”

“What’s the fun in that? She was the reason for my misery and she will be the reason for your misery too.”

“Are you threatening me?”

“Oh no no no. I’m not threatening you. I’m just letting you know what I am going to do and you won’t be able to do anything about it.”

“I’m not scared of you. You think you can come here and manipulate me with your empty words.” I stammered. Though I tried to put on a brave face, the thought of loosing Safa was making it hard for me to stay strong.

“Why don’t you tell that to your face? You are sweating.” He smirked.

“I don’t owe you any explanation. What do you want now? Why don’t you live peacefully and let us live peacefully too?”

He laughed. “I didn’t know that you were capable of such desperation. If this is your state now, what is going to happen to you when I execute my plan?”

“What is your plan?” He was right. I was desperate. Desperate to get everything out of his mouth so that I can show Safa his true self.

“My plan? My plan is to win ‘your’ Safa back. To give her everything she expects from me. And right when she thinks that she has it all. Boom!” He said and spilled the leftover coffee in his mug on the table.

“You think I will let that happen?”

“Oh. You are going to watch me do it and you won’t be able to do a single thing about it.” He laughed and got up. “Safa must have told you that I am full of surprises and don’t you worry, I have enough surprises planned for you too.”

He smiled and left before placing the money on the table.

The creases on my forehead relaxed and I sighed in relief as I stopped recording. He may be full of surprises but I was going to shock him soon.

I called Sara to inform her that I would be over her place in sometime and left.
